With origins dating back to 1896, the Tralee Golf Club is one of the world’s best known and acclaimed golf links. Designed by golfing great Arnold Palmer and opened in 1984, the course enjoys a glorious setting — edging the shores of the Atlantic in County Kerry in the south-west of the Republic of Ireland.
Comprising 18 holes, the 72 par course measures almost 7,000 yards and looks out over Tralee Bay while weaving around cliffs, beaches and sand dunes. The epic scenery and Palmer’s challenging design have earned it a permanent slot in the golfing world’s “top course” charts.
The History of Tralee Golf Club
Having opened its first course in Tralee town in 1896, Tralee Golf Club relocated several times before buying its current land west of Barrow in 1980. Course designer Arnold Palmer is famous for declaring: “I designed the first nine holes, but God designed the back nine.”
Playing at Tralee Golf Club
Offering infinite variety and awe-inspiring scenery, the Tralee Golf Club course will excite even jaded golfers. While each hole affords wonderful views, the 3rd is prized for overlooking a ruined 12th century tower and presenting the challenge of avoiding the sea rocks to one side. Another notable hole is the 17th, called “Ryan’s Daughter” after the award-winning film that used its nearby beaches for filming some of its scenes.
Tralee Golf Club offers extensive facilities, including a practice area, putting green, restaurant and bar, and is open from 7am to 10pm daily.
