Tifton Museum of Arts and Heritage

Tifton Museum of Arts and Heritage featuring religious aspects
Exhibitions by regional artists, art workshops and educational programs take place in the open spaces of a stunning century-old church.

Tifton Museum of Arts and Heritage is a venue for celebrating the arts and providing education on various art forms. Come here to discover exhibitions with art, humanity and science themes, among other disciplines. Tifton Museum of Arts and Heritage is a non-profit organization. It hosts events through the help of volunteers and the generosity of benefactors.

A large part of the museum’s attraction is its location inside a Victorian Gothic-style church that dates back to 1900. Note that it was originally the city’s First Methodist Church and first brick church. The church closed its doors in 1952 and was used sporadically by different religious groups until 1985. It reopened as a museum in 1997 after undergoing extensive refurbishments. You may think the site is still a church if you see a bride and groom exiting from one of the weddings occasionally held here.

Spend some time admiring the grandeur of the church’s octagonal-shaped interior. It features polished pine wood floors and ceilings, wooden doors and intricately carved wall decorations. Look up to appreciate the arched beams and buttresses of the vaulted ceiling. Gaze at the 24 restored stained-glass windows, each adorned with magnificent floral and mosaicked patterns.

Quarterly rotating exhibitions provide a platform for local, statewide and nationwide artists. Marvel at the work of jewelers, painters, photographers, potters, sculptors and woodturners. Browse for one-of-a-kind pieces at November’s annual street fair, Artists’ Market on Love. Other events include adult and children’s painting classes and yoga workshops.

The museum is just a short walk from Downtown Tifton. Street parking is available outside the museum building. Fulwood Park and Tift Theatre are among nearby attractions. Walk along Main Street to see antique stores, clothing boutiques and art galleries.

Admission to the Tifton Museum of Arts and Heritage is free, although donations are always welcome. You can find a list of current exhibitions and events on the museum’s official website. The opening hours are set according to the exhibitions.
