Syntagma Square (Constitution Square) is one of the busiest locations in Athens, not least because it is the hub of the public transport system. Avissynias Square is the picturesque setting for one of Athens’ most popular attractions, the Monastiraki Flea Market. This jumble of antique shops and street vendors is a paradise for bargain-hunters and those with an eye for the unusual. Second-hand books, vintage clothes, collectables, leatherware and accessories are just some of the items on offer. It’s an atmospheric and fun place to barter for souvenirs and novelties, with most of the shopkeepers and stallholders happy to strike a deal.
