Activities, attractions and tours

I took this photo at Sørvágsvatn in the Faroe Islands! This isn't a view of the lake itself or the iconic cliffs. But a view of lesser known cliffs right by the lake itself. And the body of water you see is the deep sea :). And the lake was to the right of me. To see both at the same time is a very cool sight, as well. But I like this close-up view the best. Can really get a feel of how otherworldly it is! As the classic views of the lake. I hiked about 4 KM to get to Sørvágsvatn and it was definitely worth it! Some other tourists as well, but not nearly as many as the peak of summer. I'm glad I went on that late August day! One of my favorite memories of 2018.

One of the most surreal places I've visited - Sørvágsvatn in the Faroe Islands! Had a great time there on August 26th. The more iconic view of this lake actually is much more panoramic, showing views further to the left. But I was so in awe of what I witnessed that I simply forgot to take a panoramic photo of that! Oh well, as the saying goes: there is always next time, right? :) I still did manage to get some cool shots and am glad for that. Especially since the wind could be a little strong at times! Especially near this viewpoint here. I was perilously close to that edge. And anyway, this is a must-visit for anyone going to the Faroes! It's a few KM hike but so well worth it. And the visible trail makes it quite easy to get there. Plus, you are likely to walk with other tourists anyway ;).
If you're not much of a hiker like me, yet still want to see some of the best views in the Faroe Islands, head out to Trælanípa for a gentle hike that packs some serious coastal views. Go out as far as Bøsdalafossur, which is a waterfall that empties out into the sea (can you spot it in this photo?).
Looking for an easy hike in the Faroe Islands that still has incredibly epic views? Look no further than Trælanípa, which is a hike to the top of sea cliffs on the island of Vagar.

You start your hike by skirting the edge of Sørvágsvatn, the largest lake in the country. Once you're at the top of the cliffs, the lake appears to be "floating" above the sea!
