Châlons-en-Champagne (Marne). La Porte Sainte-Croix et le Castel Marie-Antoinette. Porte Sainte-Croix. Egalement appelée porte Dauphine, la porte Sainte-Croix a été édifiée en 1771 par l'architecte Nicolas Durand et le sculpeteur Antoine Lépine. Elle est dédiée à Marie-Antoinette pour son arrivée en France avant son mariage avec le Dauphin, le futur Louis XVI. Cette porte, construite sur le modèle des arcs de triomphe romains, fut terminée juste à temps pour le passage de Marie-Antoinette, qui allait épouser le Dauphin, d’où son nom de Porte Dauphine. Le Castel Marie-Antoinette. Le Castel Marie Antoinette est un hôtel particulier néogothique qui fut construit en 1890 par M.Eugène Napoléon-Cochery pour sa fille Isabelle Marie-Antoinette. Ce petit château a été mis au enchères en février 2018, son propriétaire, homme d’affaires rémois, étant en délicatesse avec sa banque. Mis à prix pour 500 000 €, pour la moitié de son prix réel, la vente sera finalement annulée, le propriétaire ayant trouvé un arrangement avec sa banque. Un projet d'hôtel, avec des aménagements pour 3 millions d'€, ne fait pas l'unanimité.

L'Épine (Marne) Basilique Notre-Dame de l'Épine. Une énorme basilique dans un petit village de quelques centaines d'âmes. Classée au Patrimoine Mondial de l'UNESCO en 1998, la Basilique Notre-Dame est un chef-d'oeuvre de style gothique flamboyant (XVe siècle). D'après la légende, la basilique aurait été construite à l'endroit où, la nuit de l'Annonciation en 1400, la vierge apparut à un berger dans un buisson d'épines enflammé. La construction de l'église débutera quelques années après, de nombreux pélerins venant se recueillir sur les lieux du miracle. On dit aussi que le grand-orgue, achevé en 1542, serait situé sur un puits qui produirait une eau miraculeuse pouvant rendre la fertilité aux femmes, mais depuis 1851, plus aucun miracle n'est reconnu. Hugo décrira le puits : « Dans une chapelle fermée au loquet, un puits fort profond, qui est un puits miraculeux, du reste fort humble, très simple et tout à fait pareil à un puits de village, comme il sied à un puits miraculeux. Le merveilleux édifice a poussé dessus. Ce puits a produit cette église comme un oignon produit une tulipe ». Au XVIIe siècle, l'Épine est une étape sur le chemin de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. Construite de 1406 à 1527, l'église est élevée au rang de basilique en 1914. A la fin du XVIIIe siècle, on rasa la flèche nord pour y installer un télégraphe Chappe mais le 12 septembre 1802, le télégraphe fut balayé par un coup de vent. Paris envoya en urgence un autre mécanisme car le gouvernement souhaitait avoir des communications rapides avec Ratisbonne où se tenait une nouvelle diète*. En 1868 et une subvention de Napoléon III permit de restaurer la flèche dans un état proche de l'origine. La Basilique Notre-Dame de l’Epine a reçut la visite de nombreux écrivains : Victor Hugo en 1842, Mérimée en 1834, Alexandre Dumas, Joris-Karl Huysmans, Paul Claudel, Paul Fort... La basilique comprendrait 123 gargouilles toutes plus expressives les unes que les autres. L'édifice a été restauré en 2014 - 2015. La Diète d'Empire, préparée dès 1802, se tint en février 1803.
