Castelluccio, Umbria, Italy
At the end of the this road and perched on a hill on the left is the small and very remote town of Castelluccio. To get there, you must drive around several mountains and across the "Piano Grande", a plateau at 4,000ft created by a glacial lake. It is now open farmland and one of the most scenic drives we have taken in Italy!
The drive to Castelluccio is itself famed and remarkable, but a visit to the small town at the end of the journey is a must (don't just turn around!)

It's a maze of twisty roads uphill, but taking the time to walk them means many hidden viewpoints to be discovered. It's quiet, very few tourists make it this far, and might even be worth a stay for a couple of days.
