Enjoy an authentic Mediterranean seaside ambiance at Burriana Beach (Playa Burriana). This is Nerja’s largest and busiest beach, a place adored by both locals and tourists. Built between the eighth and 11th centuries this palatial fortress was named Alcazaba, the Arabic word for citadel. The military-style structure was fortified with double stone walls and tall towers, erected to see enemies approach. Take a historic journey by entering through the fortress’ magnificent gates and explore gardens, towers and patios. From the Maldonado Tower (Torre de Maldonado), you can see all the way to Africa on a clear day.

Experience the magnificence of nature and a true visual treat at Nerja Caves (Cuevas de Nerja). Walk amid enormous, naturally formed chambers to discover astonishing rock formations, ever-changing colors and age-old artwork. Nerja Caves is a complex of three cave galleries, one of which is open to the public. Time your visit to coincide with performances of dance, opera and symphony orchestras in the surprisingly spacious underground auditorium.
