Wonderful stay with exceptional service. lovely.
What a delightful place to stay. From a very warm welcome to complimentary beer and sherry plus home baked cup cakes we were treated exceptionally well. Breakfast was super and the recommendation for dinner reservation proved perfect. Although we are well travelled a couple of firsts for us - an open fire in the lounge area of our cottage and before we departed our car was washed!

Booked up last minute whilst travelling The Garden Route. The accomodation was excellent and great value. The surrounding área is beautiful and our host was able to book us in to a lovely restaurant. Would definitely stay here again.

An absolute Gem

Staying at the Augusta de Mist Hotel.
The hotel is very centrally situated. The homestead and surroundings is built in the Cape Dutch style surrounded by a lovely garden.Renate the hostess was very hospitable, friendly and helpful. The staff I dealt with was friendly and their service very good. I enjoyed a quiet and restful 2 night's sleep,as well as a scrumptious breakfast and would certainly recommend the Augusta de Mist Hotel to other visitors.

Wonderful resort in Swellendam
The Augusta de Mist was fantastic. The suites are large with lovely bed and sitting areas. The bathrooms are large with delightful tubs and bubble bath! The gardens are tropical with winding paths. Breakfast in the main house was delicious and our hostess energetic, informative and chatty! Would definitely recommend and sorry we didn't spend another night to spend time in the area. There are interesting little shops and historic houses within walking distance. Had dinner at The Field and Fork which was very good.

Superlative Boutique Hotel
The owners have created an unique piece of heaven set in a garden of eden complete with culinary delights normally reserved for Michelin Star restaurants. The host, Renata, along with all the staff were fantastic - Renata brings a warmth and sense of humor that really compliments the whole experience. Without question, this is a remarkable and unforgetable place to stay when visiting Swellendam. Whether for a night or few a few weeks, you will not be dissapointed.

Superbly run hotel
This is an excellently run establishment. Every possible convenience has been thought of for the guests. We were lucky enough to be staying on a night when they were doing the tester menu - absolutely delicious, as was the breakfast the next morning - from the fresh fruit, fruit juice, cooked to order hot selection and the freshly baked bread and muffins. It was heaven.

A home away from home. The owner and staff make you feel special, like you are the only guest that matters. The food was exquisite. The seven course tasting menu is a must try.Their chef cooks with passion and successfully put a divine, fresh and modern twist to traditional south African food. The cottage where we stayed was spacious, quaint and luxiourious. Could not have asked for more.

A different kind of guest house
Liked the style and decor of the cottages, although the one we were in was rather dark inside. The hosts and staff were very welcoming and friendly. Was a little disappointed by the food. Felt the breakfasts were not as good as other breakfasts in SA. Would have liked more fruit, choice of yoghurt, croissants, better presented cooked breakfast. Didn't really want cakes and large bread rolls. I found the evening meal a little heavy with the pastries and the pasta but that was my taste. I think the menu should have been more balanced. However, I loved all the spicy tastes.

Thank you Sue for your comments. We have looked up your stay in Feb 2016. I am sure you would have like croissants for breakfast like any other place in South Africa, but in fact we make everything here on site by two chefs. We have chosen to not make a European fare, as is so common, as it is not true to what South Africa is. I am also not sure about the evening meal, which we make with passion (and we have a published chef). We don't make any cakes or pastries (and never have), so I am thinking that you may have confused us with some other place? We did indeed have a fig-and-blue cheese fondue pasta course, in the 6 course dinner event, but there are only three caramele served, which was made fresh day.

I couldn't possibly expect anything more from a bed and breakfast for an extremely good price. A beautifully appointed, wonderfully comfortable private cottage with beautiful gardens. That should be more than enough but the food is very special - at breakfast, of course, but they also offer a beautifully and creatively composed dinner.Very friendly staff and hosts

We were looking for a place to stay overnight as we journeyed from Cape Town to start out on a leisurely tour of the Garden Route. After looking at the map, Swellendam appeared to be the perfect midway place to stop, and we luckily chose Augusta de Mist as our stopping point. We only had a 1 night stay at Augusta de Mist, but it was very enjoyable. We stayed in the Buchu suite cottage which is at the far end of the property. It was nice and quiet and the walk from the main building to the cottage was beautiful and peaceful. The lush gardens which surround the property and tranquil swimming pool make this an excellent retreat from the hustle and stress of city life. We also were fortunate enough to experience the 7 course dinner which August de Mist offers on certain nights. It was a memorable experience. Michel and Henk and their staff provided excellent service. I definitely will plan a return stay to Augusta de Mist on our next trip to South Africa.

Fantastic in all respects.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our hosts were fantastic, and the six-course dinner outstanding! Met some lovely guests that were also staying there - very homely stay. The birdlife in the gardens were tremendous. We'll be back, that's for sure.

Perfect in every way.
My family and I spent only one night at Augusta de Mist, occupying two lovely cottages. We were welcomed with cold drinks as we stepped out of our car, then treated to home-baked cake on the porch of our cottages. Michel greeted us, gave us a quick tour of the gorgeous gardens and answered all of our questions. He was delightful! The cottages are pure luxury. No detail has been overlooked. It was all perfection. We hope to return to Augusta de Mist and stay longer in the near future. It was such a treat!

Attention to detail was superb. The food was just unbelievable - 7 courses for dinner & a breakfast to die for. The garden was a joy to explore. The main house & all the other buildings were beautifully decorated with a quirkiness that I love.

Historic Country Retreat
Had a wonderful time in this beautiful small hotel set in lovely gardens. In a great location within walking distance of the Drostdy. Great attention to every detail by the attentive owners, who have a wealth of knowledge about the town and local area, make this a brilliant place to stay. And the carrot cake is very good!

What a place !
a fantastic welcome from Michel with a tour of the garden and a lot of humour. the food was amazing, especially the African Kitchen 7 course meal - thanks Henk ! our suite was gorgeous with a comp mini bar. Such a lovely establishment with lashings of good humour and style. The staff were attentive and so friendly.

Great accommodation in a lovely garden
We had a very enjoyable two days and felt well looked after. Our cottage was nicely furnished, spacious and comfortable. The owners and staff made sure we had everything we wanted and helped us with things to see and do in the area. We also very much enjoyed the evening meal. There were some nice touches like supplies for our journey and having our car washed before we left.

What a find!
Such a charming, unique piece of paradise tucked away. The gardens were exquisite. There was so much attention to detail in the furnishing of our suite that it made our stay a very memorable experience. The food was exceptional as was the service from all concerned. Augusta de Mist was a lovely old property which the owner was very keen to show off, and quite rightly. They had it beautifully furnished. Our every need had been considered and catered for in our accommodation and we were given a very detailed induction on arrival. Breakfast was indeed a feast with everything we could possibly want on offer. Unfortunately the kitchen was not open on the night of our stay but our host was kind enough, without asking, to book us into an excellent local resturant for dinner. Our only disappointment was that our schedule only allowed one nights stay.

A Gem
Our stay was simply lovely. The manager was super nice and helpful, and the room had a cool outdoor shower with hot water. The grounds are really interesting, with lots of different garden and sitting spaces, which was great for just relaxing after long Garden Route drives. The beds also had electric blankets to make it nice and toasty. The breakfast on the patio was superb with different baked breads and jams and a lots of hot options too rather than the typical eggs, bacon, tomato, which we'd grown tired of. If you're a runner, out of the gate, head right, up the street for good views. Highly recommend AdM to simply re-charge your batteries!

Wonderful experience - incredibly enthusiastic, talented and knowledge owners - unbelievable food at evening meal. Only served every other night so make sure you book at least one night for evening meal. Accommodation lovely and very private. Even get an early morning car wash in with the room rate!!

Cozy hideaway in the woods...
One of a kind! One of the most unique places we have had the privilege to stay over! We enjoyed the chats and personal care of the owners! Each room is thoughtfully decorated suiting the setting with a definite south- African flavor! We have never seen the amount of detail and thought put into accommodation as these owners have done! Well done! The breakfast was tastefully original, over the top and we did get the feeling of being well looked after!

Man wohnt in eigenen kleinen Häuschen in einem dicht bewachsenen Garten. Der Besitzer ist sehr hilfsbereit, Frühstück besonders lecker und liebevoll zubereitet. Falls Dinner angeboten wird, unbedingt teilnehmen.

Alles! Kreativ, gemütlich, geschmackvoll,tolles Bett, sehr gutes großes Bad, hervorragendes Frühstück mit viel Liebe zubereitet. Renate und ihr Team sind einfach super! 7 Gängiges Dinner war unübertroffen lecker und speziell. Der hübsche kleine Pool und der verwunschene Parkgarten machen alles Perfekt. Der Aufenhalt dort war ein Erlebnis und wir können Augusta de Mist zu 100% weiterempfehlen.

Hier stimmt einfach alles!!! Ein wunderschönes, geschmackvolles Häuschen inklusive Cupcakes zur Begrüßung und einer großartigen, weitläufigen Gartenanlage. Außerdem ist Gastgeberin Renate die gute Fee und erfüllt einem jeden Wunsch. Und dann ist da noch das spektakuläre Frühstück. Früchte, selbstgebackebes Brot und Teilchen, selbstgemachte Marmeladen und das beste Omlette überhaupt! Einfach 1000% ig zu empfehlen.

Die komplette Anlage mit allen Räumen und Garten sind mit einer unfassbaren Detailverliebtheit gestaltet. Es gibt überall etwas zu entdecken. Wir waren leider nur eine Nacht da, was definitiv zu wenig ist. Alleine für diese Unterkunft würde es sich lohnen wieder zu kommen. Ganz tolles Frühstück mit frisch gebackenem Brot, Obst usw. Gastgeber sind unwahrscheinlich freundlich und Hilfsbereit. Wir reisen seit vielen Jahren um die Welt und diese Unterkunft war in Preis/Leistung ganz oben!!

Underbara stugor i fantastisk trädgård
I en frodig trädgård med vindlande gångar ligger superfina små stugor spridda så att varje är helt avskild. Stugan/rummet jag och min partner bodde i (nr 1) var mycket stilfullt inredd med personlig känsla. Det var gott om plats med en vardagsrumsdel, sovdel samt badrum med dubbla handfat, dusch och fint badkar. Här finns också det lilla extra; badrockar, fina flaskor badskum, brasa i vardagsrummet, vin och sherry som ingick... Känns lyxigt! Vi åt en 5-rätters middag på hotellet på kvällen och det var bland det bästa vi åt under 2 veckor i Sydafrika. Välkomponerat med inslag av traditionella sydafrikanska smaker som alltför sällan ses på restauranger. Vi stannade tyvärr bara en natt, men jag hoppas verkligen få en chans att återkomma och bo fler nätter på detta supercharmiga guesthouse!

Schöner geht es nicht - alles perfekt!
Das Augusta de M. ist für uns wohl das beste B&B, in dem wir je übernachtet haben. Wenn es 6 Sterne gäbe, von uns würde es sie bekommen. Die gesamte Anlage ist einfach herrlich, die Hosts unglaublich nett, jedes noch so kleine Detail in den Cottages ist bedacht, der Pool ebenfalls sehr schön. Vom Willkommen mit einem Eistee und Führung durch die Anlage bis hin zum am Abreisemorgen als Service frisch gewaschenen Fahrzeug, alles ist perfekt. Zu empfehlen ist auch das abendliche gemeinsame Essen. Hank, einer der beiden Hosts kocht ein sehr leckeres Menü. Wir kommen sicher wieder, aber dann länger als nur eine Nacht!

Michel ist sehr freundlicher und aufmerksamer Gastgeber, der seinen Gästen mit viel Interesse, Intelligenz und Offenheit begegnet. Henk ist ein sehr guter Koch - unbedingt das Essen buchen! sehr gutes Menu, unbedingt probieren. Liebevoll eingerichtete Zimmer und Anlage. Kamin am Zimmer war toll!! Selten so ein schönes Gästehaus gesehen
Ein Gästehaus bei dem einfach alles stimmte. Ausstattung, Komfort, Personal,Service.Der Inhaber Michel, ist wie auch schon bei anderen Bewertungen besonders hervorzuheben. Seine Ruhe, seine Zugewandtheit, seine Freude mit Gästen zu tun zu haben, machen einen Aufenthalt bei ihm zu einem sehr netten Erlebnis. Es macht einfach Spaß durch Rast einzulegen.

Die einzelnen Häuser sind eingebettet in einen subtropischen Garten, welcher mit großer Liebe gestaltet ist. Zimmer und Service sind hervorragend. Das Frühstück ist sehr gut. Keinesfalls sollte man das wunderbare Abendmenue verpassen, welches an drei Tagen der Woche den Gästen angeboten wird.
