"We had an ocean front room with the historic wood paneling. It was charming and comfortable. I loved having the ocean access. The only complaint came from my teenage companion. She was surprised at the lack of outlets for charging her many electronic devices. Myself, this was to be expected and I didn't stress over it! "They did a great job renovating the Tar Heel motel. Clean, comfortable rooms. Bring K-cups with you if you are a big coffee drinker and don’t pack heavy. This is the best of old school Outer Banks, reminds me of when my parents would take us to OBX in the 70’s staying at the Beacon."

"The rooms were very clean! I even mop before I stay in a room and it was definitely cleaned prior to our arrival. The breakfast was pretty mid but it was still convenient. Even the outdoor bathrooms were very clean and maintained. The experience was great! It felt pretty private and I would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend."

"The room was old and had a not so pleasant odor to it. The tub was stained so I wasn’t sure if clean. The remote and tv channel and microwave was sticky. "

"Room was clean, and spacious enough for the five of us. It worked out great until we went to sleep. The hallways are filled with the bright, white, LED lights. If you know anything about having trouble sleeping, then this hotel will be difficult for you if your bedroom is located near a hallway window. The window coverings do not block the white light from coming in. No matter how much you try to put items in front or clips to hold things together- it was a problem. I called the front desk and...
