The Vestland village of Stryn in Nordfjord offers stunning natural attractions, spectacular mountains, deep fjords and glaciers, making it the perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
Briksdalsbreen is a glacial arm of Jostedalsbreen, and with over 300,000 visitors a year is perhaps Stryn’s most famous landmark. The glacier's peak is almost 1,900 metres above sea level with ice stretching down to Briksdalsbrevatnet. Many activities can be organised at Briksdalsbre Mountain Lodge including glacier walks, zip lining and rafting, and there are also some great hiking routes nearby.
Another glacier in the area offers something as rare as summer skiing, perfect for ski lovers during the summer months. The Stryn sommerskisenter is an alpine resort on the Tystigbreen glacier, open from early to late summer. Explore the beautiful trails here surrounded by wild mountain landscapes, and enjoy both alpine and Nordic skiing in the heat of summer.
Fjord Helikopter offers a completely different nature experience. Book a spectacular helicopter tour of Stryn, Briksdalbreen and other stunning landscapes, with a special focus on Jostedalsbreen. Choose the longest trip and you'll also see the breath-taking Geirangerfjord.
A major annual highlight in Stryn is Strynfestivalen – a three-day summer festival for skiing, boarding, biking and/or climbing enthusiasts. You can participate in most outdoor activities offered in the area during the festival. Don’t worry if you're inexperienced, there are great instructors at the festival who can teach you. Don't miss the festival camp at Folven Camping, where the atmosphere is always lively after a long day in the great outdoors.
There are several ways to get to Stryn. If you choose to fly, flights are available from Oslo or Sogndal to Sandane Airport Anda, an hour's drive from Stryn. You can also take a bus from Norway’s three largest cities and from Ålesund. One of the most beautiful ways to arrive in Stryn is by train. The Dovre Line train will take you to Otta from Oslo or Trondheim, and from there, you can take the bus for the last part of the journey.
