Stockholm
Skeppsholmen
Explore this tranquil island with a sophisticated mix of cultural experiences as well as stunning views of the city – right in the middle of the bustling capital.

Skeppsholmen is a small island located in the middle of Stockholm's city centre, a short walk from the buzzing Kungstradgarden and linked up the tiny island Blasieholmen. Skeppsholmen has everything that makes Stockholm so great within walking distance: water, beautiful scenery and excellent food around the corner, all sprinkled with a handful of museums well worth the visit.

Culture buffs will not want to miss the mind blowing installations at Moderna Museet, where the best of the modern and contemporary art scene is on display. Visitors will find works of art by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol and Judy Chicago in the museum's permanent collection.

Stop by Ostasiatiska Museet, dedicated to antiquities from the far East, where you'll get the chance admire stunning artefacts from China, Japan, Korea and India. Explore Bergrummet, a converted subterranean military complex that nowadays houses the museum's exhibitions on a permanent basis.

If you wish to spruce up your visit to Stockholm with a concert, check out what's playing at Skeppsholmskyrkan, a beautiful neoclassical church that today goes by the name of Eric Ericsonhallen in order to better reflect its use as a concert venue. This stunning music hall frequently hosts choirs as well as jazz, pop, soul and folk concerts. Inveterate theatre goers will want to check what's playing at Teater Galeasen, one of the capital's most innovative and ground breaking theatres.

However, Skeppsholmen's main attraction is the island itself enjoy a quiet walk surrounded by green areas and water while enjoying a different vantage point of the sprawling capital. Explore the historic ships mooring in the island's marina: the full-rigged ship af Chapman is anchored here, as well as the French river barge Vive la Vie head over to Kastellholmen and admire its magnificent brig, Tre Kronor.

If you're flying to Stockholm, you'll most likely touch down at Arlanda Airport, although the local Bromma Airport is closer to the city. Some low-cost airlines operate out of Skavsta Airport, located around 100 km from the city centre, a good hour and 15 minutes transfer by shuttle. You can walk or ride a bike to Skeppsholmen from more or less any area in central Stockholm. There are plenty of public transport options if you're looking to make your way to Skeppsholmen from the city's suburbs. Skeppsholmen is a great place to visit all year round, and there are plenty of hotels, restaurants and bars within walking distance, as well as popular attractions for the entire family!
