Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa

"We're a New Zealand family of four living in the UAE and stayed for eight nights in mid October. We had a fantastic holiday and would happily return. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the traditional Sri Lankan welcome dance was a lovely touch. All rooms face the ocean. Our spacious rooms had great views of the beach and pools, comfortable beds, good bathrooms and excellent air conditioning. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of variety, fresh fruit, juices, an omelette station, French toast and bacon. The pools were clean, with food and drinks delivered poolside, although the water was quite warm. The gym was well equipped for a resort. Surf lessons directly outside the hotel were great value at LKR 4,000 per person for 1 hr and 15 min. Our boys loved them and surfed every day. We enjoyed the beachfront Surf's Up restaurant, and the Weligama Kitchen buffet at LKR 9,500 per person. Hotel dining and excursions can be expensive, so compare prices with local alternatives. October brought some rain, but it was warm and the showers didn't stop us enjoying our stay. Useful tips: ATMs are across the road, local restaurants are within walking distance, and a cheap tuktuk to town cost around LKR 500. Overall, the beachfront location, excellent breakfast, comfortable rooms and easy access to surfing made this a great family resort. The warm pools and higher prices were minor drawbacks. "Our stay was amazing, the rooftop is the best. The food is really good and prepared with care. It’s a new hotel so obviously there are teething issues like- 1-There’s a hairdryer in the bathroom but no compatible input for its plug. 2- The gym machines even though new but are not maintained or cleaned regularly. 3- The charging point behind the bed can’t be reached cause of the headboard. These can be fixed easily so other than this the rooms are spacious and spotless. Pretty kid friendly too."

"Really loved the staff. The hotel is in a great location. Private access to beach. Bueatiful scenery. The only thing that I did not like about this hotel is that the beds are unfortunately hard as a rock. I loved that they had netflix though!"
