A very grey, and freezing cold, March day at Hornborgasjön in the west of Sweden. Somewhere between 15000-20000 cranes gather here, to mate or "dance" each spring, when coming back from the north of Africa. At Lake Hornborga (Hornborgasj?n) a couple of weeks every year, you will witness one of nature's true wonders - the Ball of the Cranes (my own word) . Literally thousands of cranes land here in the shallow water to feed and mate before they head south for the summer. The Cranes dancing at Lake Hornborga could be Sweden's equivalent to Groundhog Day, except that when the Cranes come to we know spring is here for real.
