Stomach-churning rollercoasters, family rides, fireworks festivals, fright fests and more; there is something for everyone at this fantastic amusement park.

Perched on the northern tip of St Helen’s Island, La Ronde is the largest amusement park in Québec and is the perfect destination for a fun-filled day out. Originally constructed for the 1967 Montreal World’s Fair, the park comes under the umbrella of the Six Flags consortium and, as one would expect, is choc-full of exciting attractions. There is something for everyone here, with heart-stopping thrill rides and exhilarating rollercoasters a stone’s throw from the usual selection of family-friendly amusements. Furthermore, if you don’t fancy waiting in line, pay a bit extra and avail of the park’s Flash Pass system. This is a convenient option for navigating the park on your own terms.

Start off on a high with a spin on the park’s beautiful old Ferris wheel, La Grande Roue. As you climb to the top, drink in the spectacular views of the Saint Lawrence River shimmering to the west.

Adrenaline junkies, rev it up a notch or five on the stomach-churning Le Monstre. At nearly 40 metres tall, this is the highest dual-track wooden rollercoaster on the planet and is guaranteed to get you screaming as you hurtle helplessly through the air. If you want more of the same, head to the hair-raising Goliath. Not for the faint-hearted, this distinctive yellow and blue track rollercoaster was, up to recently, the tallest and fastest in Canada. You have been warned!

If you’re visiting the park on any Saturday from the end of June to the beginning of August, you’re in for a real treat as La Ronde plays host to the thrilling Montreal Fireworks Festival. Centred over the park’s Dolphin Lake, each firework display represents a different country. If you’ve spent all your money on the rides, don’t panic. Join the locals on the Jacques Cartier Bridge and enjoy the display for free while soaking up the unique festival atmosphere.

Alternatively, you could time your visit for the month of October and join in the Halloween fun at the park’s month-long festival, the Fright Fest. To scare or be scared – the choice is yours!
