"A really lovely and relaxing place to spend a few days whilst visiting the game reserves. Very attentive staff, a large and comfy bedroom A lookout deck, pool, hammock and outdoor seating area are all lovely, and would be fabulous in warmer weather. Three course dinner (set menu) was delicious and all home-prepared on site. The dining room is also very nice, and we were seated right by the fire - very welcome in August. The shower did go cold on us twice, but I think in winter it's harder...

"Very beautiful historic property with great views & location. On negative side -large airy village units only have warmish water not hot - village units outdoor showers had waist high weeds - supper menus are 5 course set menus that are repeated & are expensive for quality - restaurant staff lacking management & training - receptionists could do hostessing/oversight at meal times & spot checks on housekeeping/condition of units and gardens to support and train staff but do not - lack of comfy...

Top Shamwari Game Reserve Hotel Reviews

Ikwanitsha Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"A beautiful place, stunning views, clean, and full of atmosphere. We stayed for 3 nights for a safari in Addo and Amakhala. Delicious breakfasts. The owners are very nice and helpful. On the way to Ikwanistsha, my car's windshield cracked; they helped me fill out the insurance paperwork and booked an appointment for a windshield replacement in Port Elizabeth. The accommodation is in a remote location and not the cheapest, but worth every dollar. We will remember the view from the terrace and the sounds of birds for the rest of our lives. Highly recommended if you are looking for accommodation near Addo, this place is for you!"

Gorah Elephant Camp

10/10 Excellent

"We have never stayed anywhere quite like it. Absolute luxury, complemented by the most attentive, courteous and professional staff we have ever encountered. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel truly special and cared for in the most extraordinary way. Every detail was thoughtfully considered, and nothing was ever too much trouble. The food was simply exceptional, with world-class cuisine worthy of a top chef, whether it was breakfast, lunch, high tea or dinner. Every meal was an experience in itself. An unforgettable stay that exceeded every expectation. A truly remarkable experience of luxury, hospitality and impeccable service. RiverBend Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"Truly, a five star experience that went above and beyond expectations because of Ranger John! He is an expert level two ranger; has deep knowledge of the nature and history of the land is completely unparalleled! There are many times where he was able to see animals that no one else could see because of his 40 years of experience in the bush. On one of the game drives, he smelled a carcass, and we went to explore the carcass and subsequently which led us to who hidden lions that were finished feasting on the carcass! If John had not been in tune with the sights, sounds, smells of the animals in the land, we would not have been able to see these lions!! In addition, John had shared his excellent knowledge history of politics within the region, which was extremely eye-opening! He is a renaissance man. Truly, I wish I could take John with me as a guide all throughout Africa. The food was 7/10, service in the restaurant was 8/10, the rooms itself were 8/10, but ranger John was 100/10 and truly made this an unforgettable experience."
