Just went because we need a quick spot to sleep on our way to Rome. Had arrived almost 4 am after my booking. I had checked with hotels details indicating that checking time is from 3pm to 5:30am. This was important since we were road tripping through Italy and needed the flexibility. When we arrived the clerk argued with us that check out was cancelled at 12am, that they informed Expedia to confirm cancellation. I didn’t received any notification and had to provide proof in their Expedia page confirming what I said. He finally let us get a room. All we needed was a shower and rest to get back on the road. Good news, continental breakfast is included. Bad news the bathroom had mold and the shower drain clogged. It caused the bathroom to flood and some went to the bedroom area. Spent the better part of an hour cleaning it up. Only stay from 4:30am to 8:30am. Would not do it again. Rating is very misleading.

We booked this hotel since we wanted a spot close to highway and the hotel offered free parking in its premises. Location - very close to highway, so easy to go in and out of Florence. We drove to Michael Angelo sunset viewpoint with ease. However, the hotel is in industrial area away from city. There is tram stop nearby, if you wish to go to city. Hotel room - we booked 1 room with 4 beds. We got room on 5th floor. Lifts are extremely small. However, we were taken aback by the spacious room and amazing mountain and city views. Negative - mosquitos in the room, so carry sprays. Hotel staff - found the person who checked us in extremely rude. We had 4 big bags and she denied that we couldnt use the bigger lift. The customer lifts were super tiny. One of the other staff members overheard us and decided to help us out. Breakfast - pretty goof for the price we paid.

Please do not look at the photos at all! The hotel is old and has been left for a long time without any care. The hotel is located about half an hour by car from Florence, and you need to take a taxi to the city. There is no bus or train! Each way, you need to pay about 35 to 40 euros. The breakfast is not something to compare with a 2-star hotel. I have no idea why this hotel received a 4-star ranking! the most important part is the cost of going and back to the hotel from Florence.

All we needed
Our two night stay at The Gate Hotel was a base for us to go to see Florence but enable us to park our rental car safely and conveniently. We had the feeling this hotel is often used by tour groups which came late and left early. We learnt the best way in to Florence was to park our car at the airport 4km away, and costs €1 then hop on the tram into the city centre €1.70. Our stay was comfortable, but breakfast was slightly disappointing, and a bit chaotic after the groups had just left. The location didn’t bother us but it’s not picturesque. For us we just needed a clean comfortable room and a safe car park.

Aweful experience
Aweful!!!! This is not a 4 stars hotel. It was not clean. If you travel with kids don’t go there if you know what I mean. At 7 am we waited for the elevator 30 min we were almost late for the tour we booked. My husband came downstairs using the stairs to ask for help because we were on the 8th floor with 2 large luggages. The lady told us it was normal because they have 2 elevators for 2 people only fitting inside. This is the worse experience of my life.

the property is really convenient if you're leaving from the airport . The room , Breakfast was OK few issues with the shower but overall I will rate this hotel as a 4 or 5 max . YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY .

We chose The Gate because it is 10-minute taxi ride from Florence Airport. The room was great for the low price. The restaurant in the hotel served decent food, too. They arranged for our 4:00 am taxi to the airport.

Booked this hotel as it was rated 4 star but it really should be 2 star. Carpet in hallways had so many dirty stains. One like someone had thrown up & it was never cleaned. The room & bathroom was dark with No toiletries & old chipped bath tub. Every time you bathed half the water was out & floor wet as No proper shower door. The only good thing about the room was the sheets were clean. The restaurant was closed due to holidays for the 3 days we stayed. Hotel is on the highway with nothing close by. To get to the train station which you had to use to get to the tourist spots was 40 euros one way. The breakfast was just awful. The juice was like water with colouring added & scrambled eggs tasted awful. The only thing that tasted good was the croissants. Worst hotel we stayed in our life. Not sure how it got a 4 star rating. Its only a 2 star with motel type quality.

Nice stay, efficient hotel
First of all, we’d like to say a BIG THANK YOU to the Reception staff and the Housekeeping staff. Our daughter forgot her comfort teddy at the hotel when we left the room and both teams worked to find it and send it to us at our next destination via courrier service. She was over the moon when we received it! The housekeeping staff also made sure to efficiently clean our room everyday so our kitten could stay undisturbed in the room during our stay. Most of the staff is multilingual, it really helps. The hotel is not central but very conveniently located in a dynamic suburb; we could find restaurants, swimming pool and other services very easily. Florence is just at a 20mn drive… great! Breakfast does the job but could offer way more variety to reach a real 4star standard, we didn’t try the restaurant. Although the room was perfect (space, bedding, design, bathrooms and comfort), the hotel is dated and requires some maintenance (painting on walls and lifts, stained carpets in corridors). We’re satisfied with our stay and would recommend to any family travelling with children under 15yo.

There was no transportation available near the hotel, so I had to spend a significant amount of money on taxis. Furthermore, the hotel did not meet the standards of a four-star establishment; instead, it resembled a two-star hotel with its outdated and unclean appearance. The room lacked any basic amenities, and to my disappointment, when I arrived at 9:20 in the morning for breakfast, the staff had already cleared away the breakfast items at 9:15.

Reception staff were friendly and helpful but room was down prison like corridors with very cheap carpet which looked like it had been soiled by dogs. Room very dated but large enough. Bathroom lighting was very poor to hide broken tiles and black mould. Shower over pitted bath needed fitting properly. Breakfast was a disgrace. Ugh milk in coffee machine, fruit juice from syrup, scrambled egg made from powder so just bread black coffee and jam. Taxi into centre cost 50 euros each way so not a hotel to visit Florence.

Stay away from the restaurant on premises!!
Reception workers were very pleasant and helpful, but restaurant stuff thats on premises horrible!! My son and I decided to have dinner there. After sitting down menus were given to us but after that no one came to even ask what we wanted to drink. I finally said something to one the waiters walking by. We’re ordered drinks and food and waited. Looked like there were local workers there and everyone was being served before us even though they came after. My son and I decided to leave. I don’t mind waiting, but being totally ignored by stuff walking by is horrendous!!

The hotel needs updating. Elevators are way too small, wallpaper peeling off bad. Bedsheets never changed, floor was never swept. Hostesses need to be more friendly, they act as they are doing you a favor. I guess you get what you pay, what can you expect!!!??

Great place outside City Center
This place was pretty cool. Our taxi driver poo-poo'd it when we told him where we were staying, and commented how it's a bad location, but he didn't realize we were not wanting to be near the City Center. We were at the end of our trip and arrived at the hotel in the evening, needing to go to the airport super early in the morning. The staff honored our request for a room up high, and we enjoyed the view. There is a nice restaurant and bar off the lobby with cool modern style and lots of food and drink choices. Of all the many budget hotels we've stayed in throughout Europe, this place had among the top most comfortable beds. The staff was also great in arranging our free breakfast (included) as TakeAway bags since we were leaving so early. They also arranged the taxi to pick us up around 4:30am. It was just one night on the tail end of our long trip, but we enjoyed the stay and had no problems whatsoever.

The Ac is working, just close the windows. For the respect of the environment, with the windows open the ac stop. And the mosquitoes it's summer, if you open the windows it's normal that come inside the room.

The hotel was good and that's what we wanted. It was a place to sleep but not too much more. Breakfast was good and the room was nice. The front desk was friendly and helpful. The location was very isolated with nothing around except a gas station and a church.

Perhaps the worst 4 stars hotel I have ever stayed
If you do not like outdated rooms, and typical breakfast you could have in Italian B&Bs that consist out of nothing but different kind of cold meals, you would better avoid this place. Hotel itself is near highway though, if anyone see’s this as advantage. Very misleading with photos, do not expect much.

I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. I had thought that I had done my research well & read enough reviews, but I was clearly very wrong. This was my first ever trip to Italy. I didn’t know what is considered “city centre” so I had to put my trust in the travel blogs I read & the information from the places I was looking to stay. That was a huge mistake when it came to The Gate Hotel. It was not until I got to Florence was I told that many locals consider the Duomo to be the centre & that The Gate Hotel was quite far from the centre. It’s an approx. 26 mins cab/taxi ride or you can take two busses which will take approx. 50 mins of your time. When we got to the hotel, our driver came in to actually try to help us get a refund & find other accommodations. The staff at the front desk was not helpful whatsoever. She kept repeating the same thing over & over, stating that there was nothing that could be done for us. When asked if there was anyone else we could speak to, she said no and told us to email her director. When asked if it was perfectly okay to advertise misleading information, she once again repeated there was nothing she could do to help. It was only two nights and had been paid, so we all decided to stay. Upon check-out, the staff was utterly rude & racist. I had stood in line, waiting. The male staff member helped the two white ladies behind me, even though they both mentioned I was ahead of them. Not to mention their previous response to my check-in review!

Near airport
Very affordable option near the airport. However there’s very little nearby that a person can safely walk to as it is surrounded by busy roads.

Awful
I was here a couple of years and he was ok-ish for a couple of nights. This time it was awful. The room they gave me was a shoe box, literally a bed with the walls around it, and it was falling aprt6. Wall paper coming off the walls, curtains ripped off the pools etc. The room was freezing and there was no heating at all in the toilet. The breakfast was scarse. Would never go back.
