"We arrived late and got a warm welcome from the night staff. Our room, was downstairs, at the end of the building, huge, and spotlessly clean. The bathroom was a good size and split up from the bedroom by a handy dressing area. We had a balcony, our view was small, with some garden, the jungle and next to the path down to the beach (quite steep, takes 5- 10 minutes to walk down to beach , 10 minutes+ to get back). I was initially disappointed by the view, but grew to love it. We saw squirrel monkeys, capuchin monkeys, at very close range - definitely follow the hotel advice, the monkeys are entertaining but naughty. We also heard and saw so many birds. It was quiet and very relaxing. The restaurant was where we got the best views of the ocean and the jungle, we could spend a long time up here, aided by a good breakfast and lovely staff. The pool areas were great. Not big pools, but they weren't packed. Lovely views. Lovely cocktails (a lot cheaper in the town of Manuel Antonio - but then you weren't lazing by the pool) and attentive staff. The whole hotel is built on a steep hill, they have a trolley-car to take you up to the restaurant, pool or reception. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Booking tours was also very easy. I would happily return to this beautiful spot. "

"Hotel in great location, near stores, restaurants and a few steps to the beach. Basic accommodations, very clean, outdoors needs a little TLC, including the outdoor furniture. No hair dryers or special amenities in the rooms. If you're a budget traveler this is great!"

"This was a very nice small hotel that was off the main road but felt very secluded once you are inside the property. The pool was small with limited seating during happy hour, but the staff was very friendly and pleasant."

"Property was very nice although the walking up and down the hills within the property was difficult and felt dangerous especially on the rolling surface installed. Service was great although there was a tendency to gouge for trivial services (ie salt and lime on a beer glass was an upcharge, Evian bottles of water $9 each). Bartending, waiters and golf cart drivers were definitely the saving grace. Our room A/C system was marginal. "

"This is a fantastic resort for a family! Th grounds are gorgeous and the staff is extremely friendly! We had the best time! Also loved that we could book excursions there at the hotel as well. Would highly recommend! "

"Hotel Cocomar is not the ritz however your room is huge, clean and has a private beach directly in front which for the price is amazing! Staff is super friendly and helpful, but you need to ask for what you want. Property is dated and definitely needs upkeep, but for Costa Rica it is a little Gem. They have some resident stray dogs and cats who are super friendly but if you don’t like animals, maybe it’s not the place for you. Food and drinks were delicious! Highly recommend the nachos ;) The beach is beautiful but waves are crazy and could kill you! Wonderful to sit and watch the waves or walk the beach and find treasures. Beds were comfortable and there were some English movies. If you want a hot shower- do it first thing in the morning! The monkeys tend to visit the Java apple tree on the property in the late afternoon and give you a show. Full kitchen in the room if you want to make your own food. Overall we had a great relaxing stay, drove to Manuel Antonio and Jaco beach was close enough for day trips - also rainmaker park was lovely and close too. We recommend this hotel for those who enjoy a peaceful getaway from the hustle and bustle - it’s tranquil and you can be at peace on the beach without anyone else around. If you can learn some basics in Spanish it will help you communicate with staff but they do speak English and will teach you some Spanish ;) Hotel Cocomar met our expectations and we hope others give it a chance as it deserves to be experienced. "10/10 would recommend this resort. My husband and I stayed here 20 years after he first stayed at this same resort with his family as a teenager. They had great things to say then, and we have amazing things to say now! The resort was clean and had the most gorgeous views. The staff was very welcoming and helpful with anything we needed at any time. Shout out to Marco at Mogotes pool bar for always making sure our cups were full. We had an amazing time here and would definietly stay here again! "
