Enjoyed the history and decor of this old hotel ,rooms are good and brought up to modern standards and nicely done Continental breakfast was depleted and no coffee was available However the street business transactions that were happening at 8.30 am beside the hotel was interesting to say the least. I realize hotel has no control over this

The Senator was great value for the money but you need to be aware of what you're getting. Let's start with the great: The staff. Very friendly and helpful. A real highlight. Free parking. Fantastic. Clean rooms and clean bathrooms. Comfortable beds. The hotel is older and fairly worn. The staff keep it very clean, but carpets and furniture all have seen better days. I noticed a strong smell in the hallways, but the rooms smelled fresh and clean. The room was spacious and equipped with an iron and ironing board. Towels were on the small side and scratchy. Toiletries, soap etc, were standard hotel fare. The AC/heating unit was very noisy, so much so that I switched it off completely over night. I gave the included breakfast a miss - a few sad muffins and questionable coffee. There are better options nearby. Saskatoon, like many other cities, ripped its own downtown out in the 1960's and 70's and as a result consists mostly of disconnected concrete blocks with zero character - not the hotel's fault of course but that's what is surrounding it. There were a fair number of homeless people around and absolutely nobody walked anywhere - people are in their cars. Overall, the Senator is a good budget option run by super friendly people. If that's what you need, its a great option.
