I'm reviewing my cancellation experience. I admittedly did not purchase insurance for my trip and the deadline date had passed, so this was completely on me.
We were staying at the Best Western as my daughter is an athlete and had her regional championships close by. Unfortunately days before she was injured and we were not able to make the trip.
I called Expedia to cancel, expecting to be charged the first night for both of my rooms, however the lovely people said that they would contact the property and should be able to get an exception for me to only pay the first night. I was obviously so grateful for this!
Three days later I received an email from Expedia stating that after several attempts to speak with the manager they were unable to get in contact so I would have to pay for both rooms for the first night. I did then hear from the front desk about my reservation stating that he spoke to the manager and I had to pay for both rooms for the first night after all.
It was obviously the policy of the hotel, but Expedia did make it seem as though it was possible, and that the hotel should grant an exception for one of the rooms due to the circumstance, however sadly they had no interest in doing that after all.
