Remote, beautiful location....needs a lot of work

Overall it is difficult to sumarize our 3 1/2 day stay at Coral Lodge, as there were many highs and many lows. The location is very beautiful and remote. all of the 7 guest rooms are bungaloes on the pier So....we were surrounded by the sound of the waves, the sea breeze. We were able to sleep with windows open in comfort. On the other hand, the rooms had few amenities and as one would expect at this remote location, the water presure in the toilets and showers was problematic at times. The food is general was very good to excellent, prepared by a chef with international experience. Lots of sea food which was great. Our only beef was a steak which was tough. . We were on the meal plan. A potential problem for guests is that except for breakfast, there was no choice of what was served. Overall the hotel was understaffed and everyone did 2 or 3 jobs. Even in this situation service could have been better. Dishes sometimes sat on the table for hours after a meal. My personal high-light was an all day guided boat trip through the San Blas Islands, visiting with some of the local Indians, purchasiing their lovely woven goods, then off to snorkel and swim at some very remote small islands. The kicker with all this is the property just changed owners on February 1. The staff hasn't changed though. All the things we didn't like include the up-keep, service, etc, could be fixed in a heart beat and then this would be a spectacular place. The vote is not in yet!
