This is an excellent hotel for the cost. It's located in the heart of the tenderloin, which makes it a bit worrisome but I had zero issues with the location and the property feels safe and is clean, and the rooms have all I need with a microwave, small fridge, iron and board, hair dryer, large flat screen tv, and nice computer desk. The only reason I don't give it five stars is due to the lack of air conditioning but its an old building. There is also no breakfast but that's okay, there are plenty of food choices near the place. The elevator is old fashioned so listen to the front desk when they tell you how to get in an out of the property and how to use the elevator. It is a bit loud outside so be aware of that fact. I plan on coming here again the next time I'm in town.

It was absolutely a historic hotel with a lot of charm. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. However, given that it was an older hotel, it definitely showed signs of wear and tear and didn't entirely match the pictures online. The bathroom was small and a little unclean, and the area surrounding the hotel (which I understand the hotel cannot help, but would have been nice to know about) is not the safest (especially at night). I would recommend this hotel for older, male travelers, but would not recommend for young female travelers. Also, we called the elevator the "murder-vator" for it's likeness to the Tower of Terror found at Hollywood Studios. Once I got over my initial discomfort (and inside my locked hotel room), I enjoyed my stay.

Es verdad que el hotel es un edificio antiguo que se ve un poco descuidado y la primera impresión no es la mejor, pero la realidad es que siempre estuvo todo super limpio, no había ruido dentro del hotel, casi no vi a los otros huéspedes y el servicio y la preocupación por mi fueron excelentes. La cama fue sin duda lo mejor, dormí como en una nube. Lo único es que la manta era muy ligera y por las noches SF refresca un montón. En cuanto al barrio es verdad que se ven cosas, pero subes una calle y hay una cafetería espectacular (Scully) con la mejor tostada de aguacate, creo que todo va en como lo mires. Yo estoy muy agradecida por que me recibieron a ultima hora.

Wonderful family owned hotel. The TL or tenderloin neighborhood is San Francisco can always be a bit sketchy, but the city seems to have cleaned up in the last couple of years. This is an old hotel which I’m sure if the walls could talk would have quite the stories it has one of the oldest elevators in the city, which is really cool. I would definitely stay here again and it’s a great hotel when you’re on a budget.

The worst part about this property is the extremely poor sound insulation. You are guaranteed to not be able to sleep at night. You will hear every Car passing by, every conversation from the street and the occasional firetruck and cop car sirens. I understand it is a cheap room so my expectations were not high, but decent sound insulation should be non-negotiable in a hotel room

The admiral stay

We spent 3 nights here in the middle of San Fran. Everything we wanted to get to was walking distance (10-15 mins will hills) or easily accessible to transit. The owner was friendly and I loved the vintage elevator and staircase, truly felt like a nice historical setting while the rooms were modern enough with nice big windows.

Pleasant little hotel in the Tenderloin

The Admiral is a delightful old hotel in the Tenderloin. The neighborhood is pretty awful, but the hotel is pleasant, clean, safe, and affordable. The staff are friendly and helpful, and I loved the room. It is an older hotel, but freshly painted and very clean, and I loved the mid-century furnishings. Very retro! The elevator is a bit strange, but once you get used to it it is fine.

Service is good and kindness is very good. The hotel is located in a typical urban ambiance. Don't expect the firemen trucks to be quiet ! Ear plugs mandatory. The Tenderloin area is not for basic travelers. It has been like this for ever. 2 blocs away it is a completely different world. We recommend the hotel for its good price/service ratio.

No pets allied BS

Biggest complaint, hotel information stated no pets allowed. There were dogs in other rooms that were constantly barking. Hotel staff notified. They said there was nothing they could do about it 😡

Es un edificio muy viejo, sucio y descuidado, la puerta de la entrada se esta cayendo, pague demaciado dinero para una ratonera y hasta salimos todo enfermo, las habitaciones llena de telas de araña.

Admiral Hotel

This is a no frills type place so consider that when booking. Staff was very friendly. The hotel is over 100 years and you will know it but I kind of like that. This was the only place I could find within the government per diem rate. Everything else was 3-4 times more expensive. Homelessness and drug use is pervasive in the area and you will see zombies in the streets and tent encampments unfortunately at this time, however none of them bothered us or caused any concern for our safety. There is a convenient store right on the corner which is great for grabbing snacks or drinks and the bus stops right across the street.

Worst customer service I've ever gotten in 41 year

Honestly, you couldn't pay me to stay in this hotel again. Manager was extremely rude and disrespectful to my wife, screaming at her over our 17 year old son showing up and staying the night. Kept our deposit without any valid reason other than our kid being in the room with us without putting him on the reservation... Although he watched him walk into the building with my wife. If I could rate in the negatives I would.

Very dated, shabby and noisy. Hotel is in an area that at night is full of homeless people and it’s dirty and feels unsafe. Police noise, music and yelling throughout the night. Room was clean but very dated and unkept, sheets and towels were clean but bed cover was stained, chair was old, bathtub looked bad. We only stayed one night because it was too late to change. Checked out the next morning. The rating of this hotel should not be anywhere near 6. This should be a 3 at max. Do not recommend.
