Love the building old skool building has a real homely feeling about the place perfect location very nice staff with a little renovation this place would be a 5star and the first place i would book into if available very peacefull
Incredible hospitality and lovely hosts. Always trying to be helpful and accommodating. Big recommendation from us. Super great location as well. Walking distance to lots of stuff.
I was pleasantly surprised overall about my stay at the kiwi hotel. I had room #1 which was conveniently next to the shower. The room was neat, clean, and the bed comfortable. Minimal noise out the window at night.
Staff was so welcoming and accommodating, making me a cup of coffee and ushering me into the living room to rest.
Price is incredible and a short walk from the intercity bus stop. Close to Polynesian Spa and the main downtown area. Next to a delicious Korean fried chicken restaurant.
Location - superb, walking distance to supermart, eating places/bars/cafe, lake front park, spa etc.
Room - clean, neat, bright and spacious for me.
Common kitchen - utensils, mugs, microwave, fridge available for some easy meals.
Fast check in and friendly and helpful staff.
No issue with shared bathroom and shower as generally not many are sharing and are always available.
Happy staying here.

The staff member was outstanding. Very accommodating and pleasant to deal with. The property is old and requires a lot of work. Overall based on bang for buck, I’d stay again.

It’s important to keep one’s expectations in check. Is this an immaculate luxury hotel? No, it’s dated and a little rough around the edges. But the bathroom, beds, and shared kitchen were clean. Gurdev, one of the directors, was helpful and friendly and gives out his number in case you need anything. I don’t think there’s air conditioning, but the electric fan kept us very cool and comfortable. We had no problems with noise. The location was within walking distance of many places to eat and things to do. We were a 10-minute Uber ride to the Mitai Māori Village and another quick ride to the airport.

OK for a 1 night stay.
----
Bathroom was kind of gross: the wooden parts (bottom of doorframe) were rotten/darkened (mold?) the shower curtain rod was rusted, the plumbing from the toilet was covered in a dark substance I didn't dare to identify.
I also found (stepped on) a small piece of broken glass on the carpet.
One of the 2 towels had large discoloration spots.
+++
Bed was comfortable.
Room was cheap and conveniently located.
The lounge room was comfortable and had TV for my 8yrs old.
The free coffee and tea in the kitchen was nice.

Basic amenities — though a work-in-progress
Very basic amenities. The bed was well made with clean linen though the ‘bunk’ bed did not have a sheet under the blanket — which did not feel great. There were no towels in the bathroom, which was unexpected. And the toilet paper was almost over with no extra rolls in the bathroom. Probably more of a hostel vibe than a hotel/motel — not what I was expecting at the price. However, the management is working on redoing the place … so we can expect improvements

Below average for the price
The room was very average. The sink backed up, the shower had terrible water pressure when the hot water was added. There was no good airflow so it got very hot. Opening the windows to let air in is a mistake because the air just smells like rotten eggs due to the sulphur beach around the corner. The whole room smelt bad like rotten eggs.
On the positive side the owners were very nice, and the wifi was fast. Beds were comfortable.
To what others have mentioned: yes this is an older property with very simple furnishings and design. I booked a single twin room. My room was small, but clean with adequate lighting, a fan, a window, and plenty of charging plug ins-four actually, plus two usb and one lightning plug in. The kitchen was also small but clean and had cutlery, cooking utensils, two fridge/freezers, and two stoves. There’s also a living room with Netflix to relax. Honestly, I thought the price of the stay, friendliness of the front desk, and amenities were perfect, and I’d absolutely stay again. It certainly is older, but it’s obvious the management is working to improve the property. My only suggestion is the bed in room 1 is a a little squeaky and the wood slats could use insulating to reduce the sound. Otherwise, I genuinely have zero complaints about my stay. Loved it. Would stay again. Thank you!
*The owner is very approachable you ask anything,
*cost is cheap and affordable
*shopping center is just around the area
*tourist distination are around the area
*grocery and restaurant are around the area
*this place for me is good and highly recommended
*I love to came back and stay in this accomodation in my next travel

The family that runs the property is very kind. The room was clean and comfortable. The overall house is run down and shows its age - it was a boarding house in its hayday. It was hard to get over the smell of Indian food and air freshener in the common areas (the room did NOT smell). It was a convenient location.
