"Breakfast was over at 9:30. That was too early for us. Also there was a loud roaring noise that sounded like it was coming from behind the wall in our bathroom. We had to keep the bathroom door closed which kept the air conditioner from cooling it. Other than those 2 things, everything else was fine."

"We were in town for my daughter's wedding in Boonville and had booked a room for four days at the Quality Inn in Winston Sale.. We ended up checking out early because we were totally unhappy with our accomodations and stay there and THANK GOD we found the Elk Inn at the last minute the day of the wedding!! We booked online and we're able to check in early (which allowed enough time to shower and get ready by 4pm) and the price, location and property were all more than expected!! It was the lowest price online and closest to the venue, pet friendly and the service and check in was fast and professional. The room was clean and well maintained and the air conditioner was a great bonus (considering the other hotel had us sweating at night with a preset room temp we couldn't change), it was a in great location right in the middle of town and sort of tucked away in the perfect location. I was super impressed with the quality of the room and the peace of mind we got that day after having such a bad experience with the other hotel. Also, I paid $25 for the pet deposit and it was immediately credited back to my account within a couple of days. I'm still having to call the other place about my $125 pet and cleaning deposit that never got returned back onto my card and wish we would have found the Elk Inn first for the entire length of our stay. Would definitely recommend this place and look forward to going back again if we are ever back that way."

Three Trails Downtown Elkin

"Three Trails is ideally located in downtown Elkin. It, however, is located next to an active railroad line and trains do sound their horns early in the mornings and sometimes at night. Three Trails is also on the corner of the main street junction of the city. Therefore, there is street noise. Three Trails would be much improved, and more comfortable for guests, if sound proofing glass is installed in the windows. Also, allthough Three Trails does notify guests that no elevators are on the premises, the stairs are a challenge if guests have large suitcases. Our room is identified as being on the second floor, but actually, from the Bridge Street entrance (the only entry for guests), it is actually on the third floor. There are a lot of steps. The room is spacious with a couch, small table with two chairs, coffee table, queen sized bed, and a full kitchen, including a full sized refrigerator (with freezer), dishes, glasses, cutlery , and a Keurig coffee maker. On balance, we enjoyed our stay at Three Trails and are now better informed if we make a return visit."
