When we got to this property, we were very excited. It was beautifully located in the jungle and the rooms are individual huts. Very remote, very beautiful.
We were pretty quickly surprised by the staff. Very few were helpful. We believe it’s because we don’t speak much Spanish, but we tried our best and even used translator apps and most staff just seemed annoyed with us. However, all was fine and well until a storm came.
You would think they get lots of rain and have a plan in place.
Surprisingly, they didn’t. Reminder: this hotel is extremely remote and you are fully dependent on the resort and its staff for all basic needs - food, water, energy, and transportation. When the storm came and the power went out, the staff stopped feeding us, stopped putting out drinks, and stopped communicating all together.
The next morning, all the staff left!!!
Thankfully, we had one English speaking tour guide who checked on our crew and informed us everyone had abandoned the property with us still there.
Because of him (Marcelo) I’m not giving this resort less stars. He was truly amazing and absolutely saved us from the situation.
But we are also blown away that the staff didn’t know how to handle a storm situation in the jungle and decided the best cause of action was to literally abandon the resort with residents still inside without any access to food for hours and to the outside world.
If there are no weather emergencies, the property is fine. Much better if you speak Spanish
