"Inaccessible property (have to pay extra to a tuk tuk to get in and out) and dated, unclean condition overall. Great views but poor service, lacklustre food and menu, and rooms are old, dirty, with poor beds and mattresses. We had to check out 1 night early to stay somewhere else, it was a poor hotel that is in desperate need updating. Definitely not the experience that we paid for, and it felt like the food menu was over priced too. Finally, a horrific smell of trash from an open rubbish dump nearby, which could be felt in most parts of the hotel. "

"I was here for one night with my family. The staff was excellent particularly the front desk staff and Supun. Everyone gave us a warm welcome and answered our questions. Supun in particular was very patient and helpful with my elderly parents . The hotel is also located in the heart of Ella ‘s hustle and bustle and we had great views of the sunset and sunrise. Breakfast was also great . A variety to choose from. Would come back here next time I visit Ella ."

"Very different kind of stay compared to a regular hotell. Nice view from the balcony with monkeys jumping around in the trees. The cottage was also clean and no problem to walk to Ella city centre from it. The guy who saw to the place was very friendly and helpfull. Good breakfast as well. "

"The view was absolutely amazing, but unfortunately the hotel booster pump was directly above our room, & could hear it running all night. The booster pump noise was completed by the smell of the septic tank coming through the bathroom vent, adding to the negative experience of the hotel. The hard mattress and the lack of bedding was the icing on the cake. You’ll probably want to find different accommodation. "

"One to gate-keep — a true hidden gem in Ella! This hotel is truly amazing. The views are absolutely breathtaking, and the architecture and interior design are beautifully thought through, creating a space that feels both stylish and in harmony with the surroundings. The rooms are clean, contemporary, and very comfortable, and the food offers a fresh take on traditional dishes. What really makes the stay special is the staff — they are incredibly friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. Although the hotel is just a short 5-minute tuk-tuk drive from the centre of Ella, it feels peacefully tucked away in nature. It’s the perfect spot if you want to enjoy the stunning scenery of Sri Lanka while still being conveniently close to the town. A beautiful and relaxing place to stay that I would highly recommend."

"The room was nice and clean and the staff were really helpful and friendly. The only real downside was the location which was up at the top of a very steep road which a lot less accessible than portrayed. However, the views from the property were amazing and it was nice to be away from the crazy traffic and noise of Ella town. "

"I have stayed in many hotels around the world and Wishing Tree Boutique and Resort ranks right at the top. The views are unreal and impossible to recreate. Waking up to that scenery alone makes the stay special. The staff are outstanding. Warm, welcoming and genuinely happy. Service was spot on throughout, attentive when needed but never intrusive. They struck the perfect balance and gave great local recommendations without ever being pushy. A special mention to Sampath, the manager, who is exceptional. He is attentive, present and clearly takes real pride in the experience of every guest. Nothing was too much trouble and he went above and beyond to make sure everything ran perfectly. The food was excellent. Authentic Sri Lankan dishes were outstanding and the chef’s twists on European classics worked very well. I also did the hotel’s three hour walking tour which was fantastic. Beautiful scenery, local nature, temples and even seeing pottery being made. A really memorable experience. Rooms were comfortable, clean and well thought out and the whole place feels calm, personal and high quality. I would absolutely stay again."
