Ojos del Caburga

Ojos del Caburga showing a cascade, rainforest and a lake or waterhole
Walk through tropical trees and bushes to find this photogenic trio of waterfalls, which rush through the forest into a lagoon.

The Ojos del Caburgua is a group of three spectacular waterfalls that flow into a pool of turquoise water. These small torrents of water are surrounded by dense forest providing wonderful photo opportunities. Explore this stunning natural environment and swim in cool water below the falls.

The name of the site is Spanish for “The Eyes of Caburgua,” which makes reference to how the cascades look from above. The aerial view makes the falls appear as a pair of eyes, one green and one blue.

Meditate on a rock as you listen to the roar of the cascades hitting the pool. Practice your photography skills at the waterfalls and the surrounding rocks and trees. On bright days, rays of sunlight reflect off the water’s surface.

The waterfalls reach heights of up to 66 feet (20 metres) and the water seems to flow through the bushes and other tropical vegetation. For a closer look, follow paths that lead through the thick forest from one waterfall to another. Wear sturdy shoes as the wet rocks can be slippery.

Bring snacks and drinks for a picnic with your family and friends in the designated area. For something more active, embark on a hike into the forest. The best time to go is early in the morning when fewer crowds are present.

Most visitors come here as part of a guided excursion. Tours depart from hotels in the region and include the entrance fee to the park.

Ojos del Caburgua is 26 miles (42 kilometres) east of Villarrica and 11 miles (18 kilometres) east of Pucón. The falls are just south of the Caburgua Lake in the Aracaunía region of southern Chile. Go with a tour operator or if travelling independently, take a bus or cycle along the picturesque trails to reach the park. Parking spaces are also available near the site.
