Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel

"I had a really nice stay at The Berkeley. My husband and I booked a one-night stay over Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately, it rained, but we still had a lovely time. Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The hotel is in a great location with direct beach access and close to restaurants like the Iron Whale and AP Rooftop. The hotel has a café, gift shop, ATM, bar, and vending machines with snacks and soda. The café was a bit underwhelming to me because the selection was limited, and the pastries seemed a little stale. The bar also felt more like a local dive bar than a hotel lounge, so I would recommend heading out to the boardwalk if you want a more elevated or streamlined experience. It seems the hotel has made efforts to update the property, though I would not describe it as luxurious. That said, everything was very clean, and the room smelled fresh, which I appreciated. The bed was also extremely comfortable. The lobby is beautiful and inviting, and the staff were attentive and accommodating throughout our stay. Juan, in particular, was especially kind and helpful. The hotel also offers complimentary tea and water in the lobby. Complimentary coffee would have been a nice touch, though I imagine they prefer guests purchase coffee from the café on-site. We paid a reasonable rate since we stayed Sunday into Monday, but overall, I still think the hotel is a bit pricey for what you get."

Beachwalk at Sea Bright

"Not sure what’s up here. 2 days before Memorial Day weekend and the place was a total mess. The pool was green, windows in room were sealed shut, tv, which was about a 15 inch, looked like it had been out in the sun except it was in the room ! Granted I wasn’t on vacation and only there for a night but if I was I would have left, one night was enough. Staff was in the process of learning their jobs while manager was busy sending emails ? The posting showed and played as a high end resort, its not. It is across the street from the ocean and on the river but the appearance was of they had just opened from the winter shutdown, there is a bar but it was not open, go figure., workman and landscapers everywhere. I had visited before and had a great time but that was the last time about 5 years ago. Seems like they were not at all prepared to have guests."

"Even though the staff was very polite and service oriented the building was old, the showers and bathrooms were community showers and bathrooms in each floor. In the shower the handles had mold. When anyone in the building open a faucet, flushed the toilet or showered you could hear it in the dinning room area located in the basement. We were staying in the 3rd floor and the staircase was steep with a very low handrail. The floors creaked. In the middle of the night the retractable window shades popped out of the window shade and fell on the floor. Will stay there again."
