I have visited this hotel last year in 2024 and again this most recent visit. I speak Spanish but it is not perfect and the receptionist was speaking very fast to us.
Last year I was not required to pay taxes nor a security deposit because I am a tourist. This year the front desk receptionist told me to change the reservation to my husband’s name because of his status to avoid paying taxes. I told her okay but then she required us to pay a security deposit. I did ask her to repeat herself a few times because I could not understand her Spanish being so fast. We paid the deposit and continued about our day. The next day my mom also made a reservation at the same hotel. Here’s the crazy part they did not require her to pay taxes NOR a security deposit.
When my mom asked them why did the previous receptionist require me to pay but not her. They said it was just preference.
Which to me and my husband is us being profiled and discriminated against. When we checked out there were two receptionist there. One of them asked me if we took anything from the fridge I said no. Then the other receptionist who was the one that profiled us asked me again I said no and she insisted that we took two sodas. I told her we had ordered room service and yes two sodas which we paid for in that moment. She then gave me my deposit back and said nothing else. Very disappointed.
