The National Theater is a historic structure with four stages that host a large portion of the city’s dramatic arts scene. The organization, which was initially a travelling group, is the oldest Finnish-speaking theater in the country, dating back to 1872. Note that the building, which was designed by architect Onni Törnqvist-Tarjanne, is of the neo-Romantic design popular in the 1800s in Finland. Attend a performance presented on the Main Stage, which has a seating capacity of 885. It has a majestic décor with elaborate golden balconies and rows of red seats. The Small Stage seats 307 people, the Willensauna Stage has room for 154 spectators and the intimate setting of Omapohja Studio has a capacity of just 80.
