Napa Valley Wine Train

Napa Valley Wine Train showing farmland and tranquil scenes
Travel through the beautiful vineyards of Napa Valley in old-world style and enjoy gourmet dining and unbeatable scenery from your vintage railcar.

The Napa Valley Wine Train keeps the glory days of train travel alive as it snakes through the vineyards of California’s premier winemaking region. With authentic vintage carriages and a museum-quality train, the Napa Valley Wine Train presents a trip down memory lane to the days of luxury train travel. Choose from a range of specialty expeditions that cater to your tastes and enjoy a sumptuous three-course meal during your journey.

The train’s history began in 1864, when San Francisco’s first millionaire had it built to transport visitors to Upper Napa Valley’s resort village of Calistoga. Board the train in downtown Napa just as the Napa Valley’s 19th-century tourists did. Take your seat in a beautifully restored Pullman carriage and admire the old-word finesse of the Honduran mahogany and brass interiors.

Watch the gorgeous Napa Valley agricultural preserve pass by your window as the train meanders through the rolling farmland. The train journeys through the valley’s designated American Viticulture Area and presents magnificent rural vistas of vineyards and historic wineries.

Pick from a range of combined winery tours and disembark at your chosen destination. You might visit Castello de Amorosa, the Raymond Vineyards, Grgich Hills, the Charles Krug Winery, Robert Mondavi, Merryvale or V. Sattui. Reserve your place on the Quattro Vino tour to experience a four-stop epicurean journey through the valley.

Select from a range of specialty dining tours on your wine rrain trip. Tour packages include multiple-course meals of gastronomical delights and sumptuous wines. Pick from the Murder Mystery tour or go on the Sunset tour. Gaze out of the glass-topped carriage of the Vista Dome or enjoy a special tour for two in a romantic private booth.

Each train journey departs from Napa and passes through Oak Knoll, Yountville, Oakville Rutherford and St. Helena during the 36-mile (58-kilometer) round trip. Tours vary between 3 and 6 hours. Reach the Napa station by ferry from San Francisco or by car. Reserve your place on the Napa Valley Wine Train online.
