Mykines

Travel Guide

The small village on Mykines only has about a dozen year long residents. The helicopter supplies them twice a week and takes them to one of the other islands if they have the need. During the summer many visitors come to see the birds that nest on the island or one of the islets close by. There are also summer residents many who have family history on the island. This old stone building houses supplies and equipment.

The island of Mykines is known for nesting Puffins and other seabirds. It is a spectacular place to visit. The hiking was a bit challenging for me as were the heights, but the views were worth it.
This small footbridge over the North Atlantic Ocean in Mykines speaks so much about the resilience of Faroese people. Built over a 35 metre deep gorge, it has been swept off two times in the past due to ferocious winds and high crashing waves. And yes, we did cross this bridge to reach #Mykinesholmur.
