The wonderful colors of the springs of St. Naum in Ohrid
The wonderful colors of the springs of St. Naum in Ohrid
The Big Lake is post glacial lake on Pelister National Park on altitude of 2218 m. The lake is formed by the interaction of erosion and accumulative glacial processes in the concave part of the cirque. And it’s the greatest width in the southeast-northwest is 166m. Maximum depth of 14,5m is the third deepest natural lake in Macedonia.
It seems to me that most people forget about the beauty of Macedonia. Last summer I went to a small place called Ohrid, which is situated on the eponymous lake. Lake Ohrid is big, and therefore I found a lot of beautiful spots of which I have taken pictures from. But the most impressive one, was the mini paradise near the monastery of St. Naum. There, the source of the Black Drim River rises which creates a river that flows into Lake Ohrid. Guides will show you the springs in little, wobbly boats and if you're lucky, he will sing a serenade for you! After the first turn, it became clear why this is so special. The water is unbelievably clear and bright blue. Never have I seen something like this. Along the way, the guide will stop a few times to admire one of the 35 spots where the source rises up into the river. Because of the crystal clear water, you can see little air bubbles coming from the bottom of the river - although you have to be careful to not imbalance the wobbly boat (I experienced a little scary moment there). At this point, I thought to myself how wonderful nature is. At the end, there was a tiny church where the source also runs through. A local woman told us we could drink the water, because it is naturally clean. And so we did.
