I highly recommend this place. The office staff are so friendly and helpful. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The breakfast was good and they even had plant-based milk which I appreciated. Quick drive to great restaurants and the aquarium. I would definitely stay again if I was in the area
The Colton Inn is a simple, no frills stay. We feel very comfortable staying there, and we are picky when it comes to cleanliness. It’s a great place if you’re traveling with kids or friends. We love the walkability. We always had everything we needed without having to ask. Only thing that could be improved upon is the breakfast. Or you can just skip it all together. The breakfast area is so small that it makes it difficult to get what you want, and awkward if you’re not into communing with strangers first thing in the morning. But overall a nice place, especially for the price… we have stayed there 3 times, and will be back.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. HWY 1 had land sliding the day before we arrived. The front desk posted the note immediately. Our Big Sur trip had to cancel. The staff suggested us to go to 17-Mike drive. That is a great substitute.
The hotel is close to police station, very safe. It’s quite. The breakfast area is cozy and neat.
Very close to many attractions, like camel by the sea, 17 Mile drive, pebble bay, big surf.
I highly recommend it.
This is a small mid-priced motel. Although an older property, it has been refurbished recently and is very pleasant and comfortable.
We could walk to Dennis the Menace park and Fisherman's Wharf. It is only a couple of blocks from the Historic District.
The one downside was that the clothes hooks in the bathroom were too high.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Property clean, well maintained. Friendly staff. Rooms clean and spacious. Was disappointed with cold breakfast offerings.
We are extremely happy with the processing of checking in and out. The continental breakfast was delicious. The staff was friendly and professional. Very relaxing environment. Love the stream next to our room.
It's not new and modern, but it's clean, quiet and comfortable. Walking to library, post office, and restaurants. Reasonable rates. Nearby fire station may be heard.

I stayed here for one night by myself. It is within walking distance to downtown Monterey so that’s good. Be aware that it’s across from a high school and a fire/police station. No issues with that just something to be aware of. Parking is on property. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Front desk staff was very nice. Breakfast in the morning was pieces of fruit, grocery store bagels and I think yogurt. I chose not to eat there since there are so many great places in downtown Monterey. The inside of the rooms felt updated but the outside is definitely old. No hot tub or pool although they did say there was a sauna, but I did not check it out.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Property had good reviews online. I was disappointed .
It’s very outdated and musty.
There was a room on the second floor that had the doors open and fans on. Maybe the have a water damage issue.
I was by myself and did not want to be on the ground floor.
They said they didn’t have anything else. When I went to the room it was on the ground floor on the corner of the dark alley. I went back to the office and said I was not comfortable staying in that location. They did have an upstairs room and gave it to me.
The staff was very nice. It would have been much better if they had accommodated my request the first time instead of saying there was nothing else available . There was barley any water pressure in the shower, and no way to plug the drain to take a bath.

Hello Ms McCoyYou booked a room through a third party website and they do not get all rooms from us so my front desk was correct in that we had no more rooms to move from that group. My front desk went the extra mile for you when you came back to the desk, moved and upgraded you at no additional charge to a room on the third floor to make you feel more comfortable. The reason why we had a door open and a fan going is because we cleaned the carpet and it was drying. It's tough for a business to read wrong assumptions in reviews...As much and hard as we try to have everything perfect with all our rooms, in case there is something missing, please call the desk so that we can help because if you would have, we could've resolved it in no time. We like to get the opportunity to help out when people are at the hotel as there is nothing we can do after you have checked out. Thank you and have a good day
Driveway was hard to see from storm, however, once past that, omg highly recommend! Beautiful and clean room room, covered and uncovered parking, friendly gal at front desk.
Small heater works well, but is a lil loud.
Quiet neighborhood. Creek along the back of the property sounded beautiful with the water flowing. The beds were very comfortable. We slept great.
Older building but clean. Heater was a portable heater but it worked great. Parking is limited to one car per room. Not too big of a deal since they do have street parking which is free.
Just right outside downtown and a short walk to all of the shops, restaurants, and the pier. Friendly staff. Clean property. I definitely would stay again.
Very comfortable and very quiet hotel — a 5 minute walk from the excitement of Alvarado Street, and a few minutes further to Fisherman’s Wharf. We’re booking it for a second night!
There was a temporary heating unit in the room instead of a fixed one and it was shut off when we arrived. The room was really cold. The beachfront was not at 4 min (as it is mentioned on the hotel description on Expedia) but more at 20 min walking. The room was old and the carpet stained. The breakfast was ok but basic. The price of the night was high for this hotel quality (more like a motel in my opinion). The positives facts : it was quiet (but we were in the winter) - the Alvarado St. was at 5 min walking and it was beautiful. The hotel is well-postionned.
