Overall, the experience of staying at Chateau Guetsch was amazing. You can't beat the view on the lower patio for breakfast in the morning, overlooking the city as the sun rises above the swiss alps. It's truly an incredible start to the day. Then, at night, you close out your day with a drink at the bar sitting on the upper patio as the city lights turn on during sunset. The history, unique feel, and modern updates make it a really special place.
With that in mind, a few things that I wish we were made aware of prior to our stay...
1) The hotel doesn't do a great job of informing guests how to get there on arrival, it would be great if there was a step-by-step guide with pictures to help you out - whether you are coming from the train station, car, bus etc. We found it day 1, but it was pretty inconvenient. With two large bags, we fortunately were able to carry those in the places where there is no elevator or escalator.
2) Lucerne feels incredible safe, it's an amazing city and must see place if you are traveling to Switzerland for the first time. The only dodgy area we experienced unfortunately was right by the hotel, where you have to jump on a funicular/tram to get up to the hotel. We actually changed our walking direction the second night because we felt unsafe a few blocks from the hotel.
If you go to Lucerne, you must do the Mt. Pilatus adventure, and do the round trip. i.e. Gondola, Cableway, Cogwheel, and Boat. Unreal experience, truly amazing.
