"The hotel is in good shape for being 30 plus years old. There are some areas that need improvement, such as shower doors needing cleaning, the shower floor being slippery,and my carpet in my room being excessively worn. The staff was great and very helpful. Room service was exceptional with Rob ( he has worked there for 32 years)! Housekeeping came every day and was pleasant. The food is exceptional and the breakfast gets high praise. Overall, not bad for Double Tree. I wish it could be more high-end in terms of overall quality. Some Hilton hotels seem subpar. This one was good, but could use some detailed cleanup."

"El Capitan was much more than a place to rest a weary travelers head, it was a vibe. The luxurious atmosphere took me to a beachy, artsy, analog and delicious place. The pour over coffee, the record player and robe comforted me beyond what was really expected. And Victoria's offering 24 hour doordash was epic! My only grief with the place was that I couldn't stay longer!! I checked in very late and even with the later check out it was not long enough to truly unwind. The valet was a little confusing at first with all the one way driving... so I parked in the adjacent lot myself. The valet was kind enough to move the car to park it properly which was convenient but I sadly forgot to put my luggage in the car when it arrived! The staff was amazing and considerate offering to ship me my stuff! The food at the rainbird was excellent and the lounge areas were comfortable and clean. The outside patio with the waterfall and firepit did not disappoint and made way for new memories, laughing and good times! From someone who hasn't been in Merced for a while and has hesitations returning, opting for short and sweet visits, El Capitan made it easy to enjoy the stay and maybe next time I visit the valley it'll be longer."

"The management was very helpful and mind. Easy to rent my room and traded out my key when it wouldn't work. Helped us in the morning when our truck battery had died. The property is dated and the parking lot has potholes. Not safe for kids running around. Lovely staff. Everything was neat and tidy in the room. Clean but had lavender body wash and hand soap, unfortunately im allergic to lavander."
