"The best resort and experience in Costa Rica - everything was perfect from start to finish, the drive up, greeting, staff service, facilities, the room, the restaurant, the horse back riding, the tranquility- this is not an “Add to my list” it is a “Must do Now” type of world class experience! "I thought long and hard and tried to keep everything into consideration to come up with the star rating. Although some parts of the customer service were below average and the overall noise level and foot traffic left something to be desired, I gave 4 because of the property set up and animals nearby and on the grounds."
"Great place if you are looking to do bird watching and other nature related activities. The bird feeders not only attract an incredible amount of birds but also some other mammals such as the Agouti and the Coati. The area is known for sightings of the King Vulture, all types of toucans, tanagers, parrots, etc. Including a Cayman that lives in the lagoon. They also have trails. Food was good, specially breakfast."
"This is a barely discovered gem, a rare destination that will leave you with lifelong memories. We stayed here 9 years ago, and returned this summer. The rainforest location is unique. We stayed in a treehouse, with frequent visits from spider monkeys and seemingly endless species of birds. We partook for a second time the riverboat tour through the local rainforest, up through the Nicaragua border. We saw spectacular macaws, toucans, and numerous other bird species. We encountered crocodiles, circling vultures over cow pastures, a green river snake swimming at the town boat dock. We saw other monkey species hanging out in the trees, iguanas…
But perhaps most memorable to us was the genuineness of the Eco Lodge staff. Many are local, and share with us their pride in their community. Their true warmth allows us to experience the rainforest, not as a visiting tourist, but as a proud local.
The guides are wonderful! They are smart, engaging and passionate. Even on our return boat ride across the river to the parking area, the staff member took a slight detour to point out colorful macaws eating fruit in a tree on the riverbank.
We came with our family, there were tourists of all ages, from young children to older retirees. Our binoculars and telephoto lenses got quite the workout!
While we are not professional birdwatchers, the diversity was remarkable. And, we found fellow tourists to be grounded, appreciative of life and the opportunity.
Thank you staff!!!"
"The staff at this hotel are nothing short of incredible. They go out of their way to make sure their guests are comfortable and taken care of. We did all the tours with their partner Tuanis Tours and found the guides knowledgeable and fun. All the tours went on a little longer because the guides were determined to make sure we saw all animals possible. They even made the tours enjoyable the few times we got caught in the rain. The hotel was also super accommodating and helpful when a storm changed our return travel plans. Also the location is prime, the hangout space by the beach so tranquil. And it’s really great value for the price. Highly recommend booking and using them to organize all your time in Tortuguero"
"The hotel is close to the Tortuguero NP which means you will probably need to get a boat to get there. Once there it is a beautiful resort with a series of cabins connected by paths. The place is teeming with life. As soon as we arrived a group of spider monkeys started playing on the path to our cabin, right in front of us. You can book many activities at the front desk. We did the canal by boat, went to see the green turtles lay eggs at the beach and a night walk to spot some animals. They also have a large pool and restaurant and bars. The one reason why I am not giving it a top score is because the cabins were pretty basic. They were clean, but matresses could have been more comfortable. The bathroom had a shower with all the basic toiletries. There was no TV, fridge or air conditioning. Luckily for us, it was not extremely hot during our stay or otherwise it would have been impossible to sleep. On the plus side it had a small terrace where you could sit and enjoy the jungle around you. Breakfast was served everyday in the main restaurant. It was good and there was plenty to choose from, with cold and hot options. We had dinner in the restaurant as well. It was buffet style with a limited number of options to choose from, but enough for the two nights we spent there. Nevertheless, I think it is one of the best options to stay near Tortuguero and enjoy all the nature around you."
"We spent a wonderful five nights here in a family room and it was a truly immersive rainforest experience we will never forget. You are deep in the forest and an abundance of wildlife is all around-including some in your room or on your terrace so you need to be comfortable with that. We saw many toucans, hummingbirds, howler monkeys, an anteater, possums, and many jungle insects right from our room and immediately outside it, The howler monkeys wake you at 5am every day with deafening calls which is really special- just don’t expect a lie- in! Facilities are basic and a bit run down and be prepared to be wet and muddy all the time, particularly if you do the resort’s trails into the jungle,- quite overgrown and not well marked unlike some of the larger rainforest attractions, so lots of care needed and not for the faint hearted. The staff is amazing and really made our stay magical, They were all so knowledgeable and helpful and really went out of their way to chat and make sure we had everything we needed, particularly Sergio and Suri. Breakfast and dinner were lovely buffets with a huge amount of choice of both local and international foods. I would only note two things for improvement about our stay- firstly would be to change the bed linen after 2-3 days for guests staying longer like us as the constant humidity and dirt makes it needed. Secondly to tell guests at check in how to radio security at night if required as no staff are on site at night."
