I am fortunate that wingate has an online check-in, which I would give 50 stars, because the clerk at the front desk was AWFUL. I paid for my room online through Expedia day before. My 2 kids and I got to the hotel around 9:30. At check in the clerk asked for a physical card to run for incidentals. I typically don't carry cards anymore bc tap to pay is virtually everywhere...except certain hotel front desks apparently...so I couldn't use Google pay. I happened to have my debit card on me, but the strip/chip has gone wonky and I need to order a new one. The clerk said he couldn't run it through his machine and needed a different card. I asked if he could type in the card number, he said he could not. I asked to put my card in online for the incidentals - he said that wasn't possible. He said very unapologetically and coldly that he couldn't check me in. I explained I had already paid for the room and showed him my receipt and he said I would need to call Expedia to cancel it. I explained I can't cancel the same night, it's nonrefundable, the reservation said nothing about needing a physical card for check in, and I'm in the middle of nowhere with 2 small kids. He seriously could not have cared less. NO bit of concern. I asked if he could please help me bc I already paid, my kids are tired, there won't be incidentals - off chance then we'll figure it out. He stared at me with disdain and ugliness. Rude is understatement. Wyndham, get tap to pay and teach clerks not to be aholes
