In winter, go on a ski trip in this region’s resort. Hike across the picturesque mountains in summer.

La Condamine-Châtelard is a region with snow-capped Alpine mountains and a range of quaint villages hidden in valleys. The small region is devoid of any large cities, instead comprising charming communes steeped in culture and tradition. It is also home to a thrilling ski resort with wild slopes that send you racing down the mountains. Hike into the wilderness in the stunning countryside region and capture photos of the rivers and mountain valleys that cross your path.

Locals speak French in this department. It has warm summers and snowy winters, depending on the altitude of particular villages.

The Sainte-Anne la Condamine ski resort stands right in the heart of the region. Race down its 21.7 miles (35 kilometres) of impeccable pistes. It reaches an altitude of 7,874 feet (2,400 metres). As well as skiing, there are many other activities, such as snow shoeing, which is like floating on the snow. Visit the large valley in summer, when it is popular among hikers.

Make your way across the Ubaye Valley to discover the modest hamlets. Learn about their involvement in wars. Take a stroll through the old quarter of La Condamine to appreciate its quaint appeal. The Fort de Tournoux is a stunning military structure built into the mountains that overlook the small village. Known as the “Military Versailles of the 19th century,” the site is remarkable in design, almost camouflaged in the mountain. Take photos of the impressive site, a marvel of architecture from the 1800s.

Visit the village of Châtelard, which is perched on the side of a mountain. Try the local Tome Bauges cheese. The area is also known for its chocolate, bread and pastry.

La Condamine-Châtelard is near to the Italian border in the southeast of France. It is part of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region. Take a flight to Nice Cote d’Azur Airport, a 3-hour car journey south from the region. You could also take a flight to Marseille or Nimes on France’s south coast.

Skiers and hikers will fall in love with the serene vibe of La Condamine-Châtelard in this spacious and beautiful part of the world.
