I stayed in a non-themed Queen room, and had a very enjoyable experience, with clean facilities friendly staff and ideal location for sight seeing. We also greatly appreciated the foot massager especially after the long days of sight seeing. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel in the future and would recommend to others staying in Kyoto for the first time.

Very convenient for Gion district. Free bike hire for 4 hours and friendly staff. I found the rooms smelt strange - I initially thought it was smoke but I moved rooms and it had exactly the same smell

Wonderful Hotel, great base to explore Kyoto.
Wonderful location close to train, shopping centre's, restaurants and tourist sites. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were wonderful and always happy to assist if needed. Would happily stay here again.

Perfect location for using public transportation. The staff was very friendly and accommodating our whole stay. Definitely recommend staying here if you are visiting Kyoto

Clean but tiny, mostly Japanese breakfast
The staff was polite and helpful. The room was clean but very small even for Japanese standard. I'm not tall but I had to bow to shower, otherwise the water was not running over my head. The breakfast was mostly Japanese: it was tasty but the international options were limited (one type of pastry, bread and jam, yogurt).

Another great stay at the Kyoto Hana Hotel. Tried this place out last year and was so happy with the service, vibe and location that we booked again this year. Their flower themed room is a great choice. Bigger than the regular room and has a great balcony overlooking parts of the city. Very comfortable futon beds. Really nice touch was the kotatsu (heated table w blanket) since it was still cold (Went in March, 9deg in the day). Think they remove it for the warmer spring/summer months. The sofa and ottoman could do with a refurbishment, the material is worn and slightly tattered.

I found the staff to be very friendly, helpful and professional. The room and bathroom were perhaps a little too small for me, but on the other hand I'm a tall guy!

Must try Ryokan
I love this Ryokan. The room is spacious and clean. The service was great and wifi was good. The public onsen was a bit tiny. I had the misfortune of sharing it with a number of family with children who screamed and run around the hot bath. The private onsen is a must try. It is beautifully designed and very serene. The location is a bit far from the main attraction and city, but bus is available almost every 15-20 min. It is close to Lawson convenience store and 5 min walk from the Little Prince museum. My husband and I got to take a nice quiet stroll every night. The air feels clean and fresh. The breakfast was delicious. Too bad I did not get the chance to try their dinner.

Nice small hotel
Nice small hotel with friendly staff. Good location near to both bus and train stations, so moving around is easy. Within walking distance to attractions like Gion and Nishiki Market. Rates are on the high side though.

Nice clean boutique hotel in a great location
Hotel Hana was a great choice for a 6-night stay in Kyoto. The room (on the 7th floor) had great views of the surrounding mountains. We were just a walk away from Nishki markets, great shopping, eating, temples and the Gion district. A modest breakfast was available at the hotel for a modest fee, however, you need to book with the hotel staff (usually the night before). Western and Japanese style self-service breakfast is offered in the small cafe downstairs. If you can't get in for breakfast at the hotel, you might like to try the Shinshindo Boulangerie just 2 blocks away for delicious, freshly baked French and Japanese pastries. They also offer scrumptious sit-down breakfasts. Rooms at Hana Hotel are small but clean and very well appointed. We had a full-size bath in our bathroom! Staff were professional and courteous.

Hana Hotel
Lovely hotel, very friendly and helpful reception staff, room was very comfortable. Powerful shower and good selection of toiletries. Very close to the Sanyo metro station - 30m from one of the exits. Easy to get buses on the street or near to other bus stops taking you to all the interesting temple/tourist sights in Kyoto. Very close to lots of restaurants, Gion district and has a good supermarket right next door to the hotel. If I come back to Kyoto, I would definitely stay here again.

This Hotel was amazing from Start to Finish ! The hotel staff were super friendly and very helpful, they had great knowledge of the surrounding area and Kyoto. This hotel and the staff really made our trip, a great little hotel and some very nice posh amenities and toiletries.... Amazing !

Basic, dated with simple breakfast
We just stayed four nights in a very dated room. Breakfast is very basic - ok for one meal but don't bother thereafter. The hotel is in a good location just a block away from the main areas you would want to see in Kyoto. Staff were friendly and helped us find an English speaking doctor and made the appointment for us which we appreciated. I would stay here again, but expect a basic older style yet clean room.

A few blocks from Ponto-cho, a short walk from the Sanjo station, this hotel is ideal if you need to get anywhere in the city. (You'll probably still have to transfer a couple of trains, but that's often true in Kyoto.) The staff is very helpful and most of them speak quite good English—they also have hand-written and -drawn maps and cheat sheets to help you get around.

We had a "concept room" so these comment may not apply to all the rooms. It was a big room, even by western hotel standards with a huge bed. ....But much of the space was wasted, it didn't really work as a hotel room - it felt like the designer hadn't done many hotel rooms before - just the little touches like bedside light, places to put bags. The bathroom was good (standard Japanese prefab layout with shower over bath) smallish but perfectly functional. The location was really good near the subway, short walk to the places we wanted to go. Friendly staff, helpful at organising reservations etc. Worst hotel breakfasts we had in our Japan trip (out of 3 hotels/lodges).

The hotel is in the convenient place but away from the Kyoto train station. Be prepare to take the public transportation to get there. But it was not easy for rookie like me. The room size is small and they weren't kidding when the description says "one person." However, everything you need is there and more. American hotels should be ashamed!! They have slippers, Japanese robe, shaving kit (incredibly sharp), hair band, body scrub clothes, and toothbrush. And did I mention facial toner and wash besides shampoo and shower gel? Do request American pillow. I didn't find out until the day before I left. The Japanese pillow is hard and make my shoulders ache. Not all staffs speak fluent English.

Stayed for one night. They let me have a late check in and even let me keep my baggage with them the next day (after check out) so that I could explore the city. Staff were super nice and also let me hang out in the lobby when I got back to charge my phone.

Yes, first of all, it is really convenient to go to any attractions in Kyoto. The hotel is just in front of Sanjo station and Bus stop. Also, numerous attractions are really close located around the hotel.

Fantastic service! The staff always has the right response; very helpful. Great location near both Gion and Pontocho. Very near an underground station and a bus stop. Room a bit small but the bathroom is lovely. Great attention to detail. Breakfast is basic but ok.

Excellent boutique hotel
Great location. Extremely polite and helpful staff. Excellent service and amenities. Very clean and comfortable room. Paid breakfast is nice and good value. For their 3rd anniversary, the hotel gives coupons to guests to redeem a free drink at a nearby bar. Everything exceeds my expectation. Would certainly recommend it.
