A summary has to be "has potential to be great".
The grounds are well kept, spacious, clean, newly painted, well built with a nice pool hence great looking pics.
... however, some things just let this place down, for example:
- Reception is very rarely open ... especially at time when people need it such sa checking in times in the afternoon. There's a handy note that says to contact the pool bar .. but that closes at 5 so you're left to wonder how to check-in. I saw many people in this situation.
- The shower cubicle is old and the doors need careful management to make them slide as well as the enamel chipped off so black areas around the bottom (not mould, just old)
- Breakfast is basic. Everyone brought their own additions to make breakfast bearable. They provide the basics: yoghurt, bread, boiled eggs, cheese, ham, cornflakes, jam, honey, coffee.
- The pool closes at 7. Why? There's no lifeguard and the pool bar closes at 5, so why close the pool at 7?
- Signs everywhere telling you not to do stuff: don't dive. don't jump, don't pull the hairdryer by the cable...
- Linen supposed to be changed every 3 days. Done after 3 days then not again, we had to ask and then were told it had been done the previous day which clearly it hadn't as we left towels in bathroom and when they get changed they are folded on the bed.
- having to pay for a/c at 10E per day. Not even a fan in the room.
Put simple things right and it'll be an ideal place (although too £££ in high season)

Needs simple things to make it much better
From outside the whole property is well presented, clean and spacious.
Inside the rooms are also spacious and have the opportunity to be really good but this is where it starts to go wrong.
Showers doors that don’t fit/ slide, old shower screens, a kitchen area with cups and kettle but no plates or cutlery. Photocopied signs sellotaped to the wall.
Also rarely anyone at reception and the doors locked. When we arrived it took some time to get in contact with them, and we saw other people having the same issue.
And no fan, with a/c that costs 5E per day seems ridiculous when paying 95E per night (2 adults, 1 child) in height of summer.
The pool is clean, the property is clean and shrubs well tended ... but those simple things like a manned reception or a clear note to say what to do if no-one there, some new shower doors, better equipped kitchen and a fan in each room and this would raise this property to what we paid.
Shame ... has potential
The Big Village Hotel has a family feeling and the owners made me feel right at home. The room was very spacious and also had a very large private patio to enjoy. This is not your big, fancy hotel where they don't know your name. This hotel is very inviting because you are greeted every morning by your name and welcomed to sit and chat with them over a cold breakfast which gets your day going. The hotel grounds are spotless and the oversized pool is very inviting. It is located one block from the main path of stores, restaurants, tavernas and two walking blocks from stunning Skala Beach. I had the best time ever because the owners made me feel so invited to their "home". I look forward to staying there again.

Great hotel in the beautiful Skala
We enjoyed our stay at Big Village. Room is nice and has an air conditioner for 5 Euros per day. The bed was very hard and creaking and hurt my hips, hence why I have rated comfort and condition as neutral.
Stayed in a duplex, very spacious, air conditioning good, very clean great views out to sea, pool and pool bar excellent. Short walk to beach and village centre. Will book here again

Fantastic location as close to all amenities in Skala. Lovely pool area. Large rooms and very clean. The photos do not do it justice. I would definitely visit again.
The Big Village is a group of large rooms and balconies situated around a pool that is open to other tourists from neighbouring hotels. Our large room was equipped with fridge table and chairs. Despite reports, the air conditioning was included and a safe only cost 2 euros a day.
Swimming pool was very good. However you don't have to stay at the hotel to use it and can it be annoying when non hotel guests arrive very early and choose the best spot. I would rather it wasn't a place for topless sunbathing- keep that for the beach in my opinion.
The staff are very friendly. The breakfast was basic. We tried to make toast each day in a sandwich maker- which seemed to work ok. Coffee wasn't very nice by day 3- possibly reheated? Not a problem really as kettle facilities in your room. Rooms are cleaned each day but the rooms are tired looking. Our shower door was difficult to close- the toilet seat was loose- the front door handle was coming away- the air conditioning didn't always start straight away- to name a few. The grounds are well maintained and the rooms seem freshly painted on the outside.
The staff were very welcoming and clearly work very hard so would never want to criticise them.
Overall the great location, friendly staff and pleasant swimming pool meant we had a relaxing lovely holiday.
We had a great two weeks, the room was lovely, big and clean. The pool is lovely with lots is of sun beds and a nice little bar. On the whole a really good holiday the hotel is well situated and we would definitely go back
