The staff and cleaniness of the hotel was good, but it was way way overpriced for the type of room (unit style bathroom etc). Also the food was incredibly expensive - JPY8,000 for a dinner bento box (looked like something that would cost around jpy 1,500 at any other place). I have been living in Japan over 25 years and I would not recommend the hotel because it was so overpriced. I drive a ferrari but otherwise i focus on value for money and this was certainly not value for money. Staff were very nice and polite as one would expect in Japan. That's standard for Japan. We ate our breakfast outside of the hotel for a quarter of the price of the hotel - full breakfast in the forest overlooking a beautiful stream - couldnt beat it.

great hotel to stay
A very friendly hotel for family. Our 5 years old grandson loves it. We love the in-house hot spring. Such convenient after a day out be able to come back relax & soak in the hot spring, so refreshing. Food in hotel is excellency both dinner & breakfast with wide spread & choices. Regrettably not enough time to eat full breakfast as rushing to go ski lesson for grandson. Close to town where lots of shopping & food at the factory outlets. Close to ski slopes. Don’t rely on Google direction as it takes you one big round & easily get lost at the interchange when one can simply go straight from town.

Stayed with my husband and dog. Everything was overpriced and the quality was way below average. Food was not great and the hot spring was one of the worst I’ve ever been to. Bath unit was nasty and old. I wish they reformed the hot springs. That would make things much better. Staff was friendly and nice, lobby was clean.

Room is clean, the buffet breakfast is unique and the most favorable is the staffs are really care about guests' safety. Typhoon no.19 is approaching today, hotel staffs keep sharing the latest traffic and typhoon information during our checkout.

Best for road trip
Very good for road trip , big car park. But not recommend to traveler who take public transportation. No any food supply even room service after 10pm. And need to drive at least 15mins to find a overnight convenience store for food . So remember to prepare some food in case you are hungry at the mid night . The public onsen is decent and beautiful design .

Super nice hotel with in house open bath facilities. Room is super nice, spacious and clean. Suggest to drive here as it’s distance away from JR station and shuttle bus schedule is not very frequent.

Overpriced for What you Get
Understanding that the location is an upscale one, the price to performance for this chain hotel is still poor. The hotel is relatively new, so some of the staff is still gaining experience, and not familiar with all of the systems. For example, on a prepaid reservation the staff presented a bill on checkout for the stay, and needed to be challenged and then required five minutes of internal consultation to clear matters up. For travelers not coming by car, shuttle bus availability and timing may not be convenient, and most destinations could require a taxi, versus more centrally located options.

Top-notch service in tranquility
The Karuizawa Marriott was a fantastic place to stay in. We decided to head out of Tokyo for the peaceful countryside and Karuizawa was exactly that. The Marriott was one of the further hotels (around 5km) from the Karuizawa train station (which is just beside the Karuizawa Prince Shopping Area) but the fact that it was more remote made it all the more peaceful and enjoyable. The general manager of the hotel, whom I believe was Yoichi-San, was very attentive to all our needs as we had a wheelchair with us. He helped us to settle in by giving us an option to take a room that was more convenient for us in terms of navigating the wheelchair. (This one had twin beds but the one we booked was a king size bed) He was mindful and considerate and took the time to explain to us why he suggested the room and left the option for us to choose. When we went out for walks with the wheelchair, the staff provided us with a fleece blanket and really looked after us. All the staff that attended to us were really courteous and also very considerate of our situation. We had a lot of soups ordered because of the cold weather and they were all delicious! Do try their club sandwich, Marriott burger and dessert fruit platter too! Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and we enjoyed it throughly! Thank you to all the Marriot Karuizawa staff for all your assistance and for helping us have a wonderful stay!

Book this hotel before people find out about it.
This hotel just reopened in July 2016 as a Marriott and the rooms and facilities are brand new. It is far away from Karuizawa station and town if you don't have a car and the hotel shuttle is very very limited on what they will do for guests. We had good food in town and a nice day at the beautiful art park where the Sonnet restaurant is. People come to Karuizawa for golf and there are many golf courses to choose from. For upscale shopping or dining on the river Harunire is the place. Beautiful outside walking and seating along with high end shops. All these things are cab rides from the hotel which can really add up. Suggest they make the shuttle flexible rather than only to the station at specific limited times. Last suggestion- there is a small wine bar restaurant at the far end of the station that is great and so convenient!!

スタッフの対応がよかった。ここは車以外では泊まらないと思うので、ホテル内にレストランが少なくても中軽井沢や旧軽井沢まで車で近いので軽井沢の雰囲気を楽しむにはちょうど良い感じです。
