"It was hard to appreciate the full experience as the staff did not have an English translation for key protocol or amenities (I realise it is noted when booking that staff don’t speak English ) But to move forward and guests to experience the full Onsen experience this would be an enhancement The room was spacious but suffered from condensation and could do with some more up to date Electrical points "

It can be a bit inconvenient without a car, but there’s a bus stop right in front of the hotel that runs at specific times and goes to the nearest train station, Shiojiri. "We stayed at this ryokan for 3 nights and we loved it there! It is family driven and has such a lovely and local feeling. Our room was big, authentic and had a really nice onsen. We received the best breakfast every morning, it was the best we ever had. We also had dinner there 1 night, and it was such an experience. Everything tasted amazing and we loved that the ingredients was local and in season. We also got help for activities. "

"We enjoyed our stay in Ryokan Sansui. The view from our room is breath taking and the private bath is so relaxing. I also tried their public onsen and it was complete with amenities. Both me and my partner felt so pampered. The dinner and breakfast provided are delicious. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. "

"Richmond Hotel Matsumoto was a wonderful surprise. As a budget-friendly business hotel, we weren’t expecting much—but it turned out to be far nicer than anticipated. The room was spotlessly clean, with a comfortable queen bed and a divan-style sofa that made for a perfect little reading nook. The breakfast buffet was simple but satisfying, with enough variety to suit even a finicky Western palate. Its location is excellent—convenient to the train station, restaurants, and shopping—making it an easy base for exploring. Matsumoto itself is a lovely city that feels a bit under the radar for international travellers, yet it offers so much charm. It’s also an ideal staging point for trips into the Japanese Alps or the Kiso Valley. All in all, a great option if you’re looking for something budget-friendly without feeling bare bones."
