A town with a prominent church featuring a tall tower and a large building with a red roof.

Hoganas in the southern Swedish region of Scania has a strong tradition of pottery, but the charming town is also well known for nature excursions and a true creative spirit.

During your holiday in Hoganas you are sure to come across the traditional local pottery, which has become a staple in any Swedish household. This is one of Sweden's foremost pottery producers, and thet town's solid tradition has also inspired a strong artist atmosphere and creative spirit, surrounded by gorgeous nature on the Scania coast. A weekend in Hoganas is bound to be influenced by the craftmanship and the sea.

The pottery ovens of Hoganas have been in use for almost 200years, but the famous pottery industry might have never started if it weren't for the historic coal industry. During the 1830s, the mud produced as a by-product from the coal industry was first turned into the famous Hoganas stoneware. At Hoganas Saltglaserat you can buy historic tankards which still to this day are made with traditional methods.

Explore the fascinating pottery history of Hoganas at Hoganas Museum to find out more about this intriguing art. If you prefer a practical view to the theoretic, you can try your hand at throwing, glazing and firing pottery at Keramiskt center, where you can learn more about and buy your own traditional pottery. If you still haven't found the perfect pottery souvenir to decorate your home, you can find lots of pottery studios in and around the town, where visitors can explore handicrafts.

But a trip to Hoganas will offer so much more than just pottery! The creative zest runs high at Hoganas Bryggeri, which is a micro brewery open to the public for beer tastings on the last Friday of the month. In the brewery shop, open every day during the summer months, you will find home brewed low-alcoholic beer and locally produced beer sausage of lamb fed with the organic waste products from the brewery.

The beautiful nature reserve Kullaberg is a definite must-see for any outdoor enthusiast. Hike along the 60 kilometres of award-winning hiking routes along the coastline, admire the view from the lighthouse Kullens fyr or try thrilling rock-diving or climbing. You can also go for an impressive porpoise safari, giving you the chance to catch a glimpse of these wild, northern dolphins up close.

A stay in Hoganas is likely to be influenced by pottery, but no matter where you turn, you will find remarkable signs of this town's creativity, artistry and care for nature.
