  • A few kilometres downstream from Lake Taupo the river changes to some rapids for a short distance. When the rapids finish there is a drop which creates a waterfall. It all ends with this scene which is stunning. Only a 30 second walk from the car park to the river this shot was taken about a 5 minute walk further downstream on the main track at sunrise.

  • I would not usually consider a garden a must-see experience, but I am really glad a local told us to visit Hamilton Gardens. The experience of wandering through a maze of hedges that open into perfectly cultivated gardens plucked complete from other countries and other eras was quite possibly the closest I will ever come to feeling like Alice in Wonderland come to life. You never know what magical sight waits around the next bend in the path.

Really happy with our stay. Unit was clean and tidy. Daily housekeeping. Staff really accomodating. Short drive to supermarket, hospital and other places we needed to go. Would stay again.

Spacious 2-bedroom Apartment

Great stay as the area was quiet and the apartment was spacious. However, the cloth line was broken and the check-in was at a different place. The communication was great and we received reminders and directions & instructions for the check-in the day before.

Great communication from the owners. Apartment is so much more appealing on the inside. Had everything we needed for my family and I. Great place to stay. No noise. Only 2 of the rooms were occupied. Thank you for your great hospitality. We look forward to staying again.

Good - cheap option, quiet, easy parking, beds are clean and well made, good space for a one-bedroom flat, spacious bathroom and toilet Could be better - kitchen floor was not very clean, shelves and cabinets are old, some furniture need attention, shower pressure a bit low, bathroom ceiling had some mold Overall - good cheap option, would visit again if the issues above were addressed

Apartment was very clean and tidy. Great location. Grounds grass was very long. Water draining from shower and bathroom basin was terrible. Really needs to be cleared. Will use property again tho.

Pro’s - Great location. Close to get grocery’s. Spacious rooms. Bedding and towels provided. Good if you just need somewhere to sleep and shower. Cons - Mattresses uncomfortable, not enough extra blankets so we used heater all night. Low water pressure, shower is half a metre off the ground (huge step to get in and out) and water doesn’t drain straight away so your standing in a few inches of water. Parking is very tight when full.

The property was a bit run down. There was a very strong smokers smell. The got better after airing out for half a day. The kitchen facilities are very good.The water presure was weak in the shower. WIFI worked well. The location was very handly.

I stayed at this hotel by chance. Actually booked in to stay at another hotel on the same street so I called ahead of time to inform them we would be checking in very late due to flight. Was told that check-ins after a specific time, you need to check in at Ulster (owned by same person). Not sure if this info was on the website, but if not, it should be. Also they take a $100 bond which they will return the day you depart, upon inspection of your room while you wait. We did leave a couple items behind but they weren't returned to us, which I thought was odd because you can see the inspection person going in and coming out of the room & they only indicated to the reception that the room was clean enough to return our bond. I called the hotel a day later when i couldn't find my items and they told me yes they were left behind in the room. Other than those points, the hotel room was clean, reception pple were lovely, both night staff and day staff.
