The Untersberg mountain cable car is well worth the trip; about 25 minutes out of Salzburg by bus and this is the view from the top of the mountain. Salzburg on one side, mountains on the other, and views for miles. Get the Salzburg 24-hour card; it’s 25 Euro and by the time you’ve taken a bus to the cable car, ridden the cable car, and returned to Salzburg you’ve already gotten more value than what you paid for the card. Plus there are loads of other museums and things to see that are included with the price. We loved this option! (There’s a 48- and 72-hour version too if you’re there for longer; more expensive, obviously...)

The location was great and according to my daughters, the sofa bed was very comfortable. The bed & pillows in the main bedroom were so comfortable, and the underfloor heating in the bathroom was lovely. It was also a very straight-forward self Check-in process.

Salzburg

Anif Castle, located at the southern city limits of Salzburg, Austria, looks the quintessential romantic fairy tale. The castle gained notoriety in films like The Sound of Music, The Great Race, The Odessa Files and The Slipper and the Rose. Erected in the early 16th century, the castle was rebuilt by Prince-Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun about 1693 and served as the summer residence of the Bishops of Chiemsee. Redesigned in the mid-19th century in the current neo-Gothic style, Anif Castle was the refuge of the deposed king Ludwig III of Bavaria during the German revolution of 1918-19. Today the castle is privately owned by the family von Moy.
