The manager, Bailey, was there when I arrived to check in. I had made my reservation 3 weeks in advance and had spent two full days driving from NH to NC. I was extremely tired and wanted to get into my room. Bailey told me that "having a reservation did not mean anything." He gave me many excuses as to why my room was not ready (they were overbooked, guests overstayed, they had rooms of the type that I booked but they were not clean, etc.) Bailey said I have to stay in a downgraded room for the first night and would have to work out the refund with Expedia. He said they could move me to my correct room the next morning, which would entail me moving all my belongings, that I had just hauled up to the third floor. I agreed I would stay in the downgraded room for one night. When I got to my downgraded room, I noticed that the dishwasher had an out of order sign on it, the smoke detector was not connected and the cover was hanging from a wire in the ceiling, and the refrigerator was making a loud roar that no one could sleep through. I called Expedia and they resolved my issue in about 20 minutes by canceling my reservation and getting me a refund. I had to pack up all my belongings and move to another hotel, which by the way had no issue accommodating me even though I made my reservation a few minutes prior. If you choose to stay at Maine Stay Suites, whether or not you get a room or whether you get the room you actually booked is a complete gamble so beware.
