Brilliant 1 night stay at the Geese and Fountain. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly, the evening food was absolutely brilliant and the breakfast, well, what an absolute dream. Will definitely stay again if in the area.

Nice people shame about the place

Nice enough staff. The pub looked like a 1970’s Benidorm recreation of a British pub with a ceiling full of beer mats. Food was ok but a little overpriced for pub grub. The outside area was filthy. The doors to the outbuildings that house the rooms were ramshackle. The rooms themselves looked like they were last decorated about 30 years ago. The TV was a 20 year old mini tv with free view that didn’t hold the signal. Neither tv or kettle had a PAT testing sticker. The bathroom was grubby especially the floor tiles. The shower was an old electric one again it looked as though installed in the nineties. Now I cannot apportion any blame to nature but the crows in the nearby rookery were cawing from 5AM. The furniture was ancient and there is a significant difference between shabby chic and shabby. Pity it was the latter. Nice people working there but the whole place needs a total revamp in my opinion. Definitely not worth the money £85 bed breakfast and evening meal inc one drink.

Swartz?”¥# room was not the best size to be called a double room! I am 6’3” tall and wide set, simply, the bed was lovely and comfy, tidy and clean room with coffee/tea making facilities BUT squeezed into a space waaaay to small. I was bashing my elbows on the wall all night and my wife was bashing her knees on the radiator all night!!! The shower/toilet/bathroom was really small, clean n tidy but too small. Put a mirror in the bedroom for the ladies to dry n do their hair, as there any a long enough lead or socket for the dryer in the ‘small’ bathroom. The TV had intermittent signal and was essentially unwatchable! All very negative but for the price…..!? To end on good points The village, locals and dog walk opposite the pub were lovely. The pub was pleasant n comfortable with good beer, cider and other drink choices. Staff really lovely, with a brilliant bearded warrior chef - amazing breakfasts and evening meals. Really tasty, well prepared, freshly made with locally sought and importantly, home made produce. The back area down to a decking platform area needs to be tidied, cleaned up, it would make a lovely area to overlook the geese farming area and general space to enjoy the beautiful countryside and pub/village facilities. Don’t rule out this opportunity to stay here, just make sure it’s not in the ‘Fountain Swowtzski’!?! room. Room name spelling is wrong, sorry but I know the pub will understand. Worth a visit just ask for a different room!!? PetenJane

Great beer and good food

Great beer pub - food was decent too. Lovely staff, but my bathroom was very compact - could only just get my legs under the sink when using the loo!!

I chose this as a convenient stop on our travels, and close to Belvoir Castle for a visit, but discovered it is in a charming rural location with a de se network of trails and paths across the fields. The real surprise was the high quality of the food, sourced from local ingredients, including homemade marmalade and jams. If you like beer there is a good selection of real ale.

Cold comfort

I know I arrived late due to circumstances beyond my control but found the room was very cold with a summer duvet. Had to use my coat on top for extra warmth. The bar where breakfast was served was also very cold which tended to make you rush breakfast so you could try to get warm whilst waiting for a taxi to the station.

Excellent pub, poor accommodation

Booked this accommodation as we were going to Belvoir Castle for Christmas events. Arrived early and able to check in. Pub is quaint with good choice of ales and gins. Ate here in the evening and had breakfast, food was good. Staff very friendly. However our accommodation which is in a separate building was poor. Not the picture we saw on website. Curtains hung badly, windowsills not clean, carpets worn, shower old and not clean looking, no blind in bathroom although window was opaque can still see when lights on. Room was freezing, although it was looked at and told boiler had gone off. Radiator came on temporarily but not for long. The only positive was beds were clean and comfy. I'm not keen on writing critical reviews but don't want anyone else to be as disappointed as we were.

The room was clean and tidy with tea coffee making facilities. The location is great just 5-6 miles off the A1 set in lovely countryside in a small village. Belvoir Castle stands 4 miles away. The meal was fine and the hotel has quite can extensive range of beer and wines reasonably priced. The hotel was closing for a few days for the staff to take time out and a few odd jobs and tidying up the facilities. Would definitely stay again

Inexpensive stop-over for long journeys

We stayed in a dog friendly room (Lion Court) which was quiet and had a large bed, but the room was cramped and dark and the bathroom was tiny. Unfortunately there were late arrivals in the room above us and the sound insulation was non-existent, so we could hear them talking, the TV, and there were very loud thumps when they dropped things on the floor and walked around. On the plus side, however, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was very good. The dining area was pleasant with clean scrubbed pine tables.

Welcome overnight stay

The service was very good from the time we arrive and left. We ate in the evening i chose the burger, which when arrived was over cooked, and looked like it had been heated in the microwave. My wife had the trishcake which she said was very good. The room could do with updating, although the kingsize bed was very comfortable. The breakfast made up for the disappointing burger. It was freshly cooked to order and was probably the highlight of our short stay. There was a good selection of l beers, gin and whisky.

Friendly and welcoming owners, one of the best breakfasts we have had in a very long time (all top quality local produce), dog friendly rooms are clean and comfortable, plenty of parking space, and the village is set in wonderful countryside. This was our first visit and we will come again and bring friends!
