The Furnace Creek Visitor Center is a useful resource and jumping-off point for exploring the surrounding Death Valley National Park. Drop in to the visitor center’s adjoining museum and learn about the region’s cultural and natural history before heading off on your adventure around the park. Join ranger-led tours, watch an informative film about the park or pick up maps and brochures so that you can plan your journey.

Check out the Furnace Creek Visitor Center’s architecture. The gold-tinted and dusky-pink stone of the building and its surrounding paving reflect the colors of Death Valley. Outside the front of the building, you’ll see a sign that reads the outside temperature. Temperatures in Death Valley can reach over 120 F (49 C) in the summer.

Enter the building to explore the museum’s collection of exhibits and displays. Check out a scale model of the national park and see if you can follow your intended route. Learn about Death Valley’s fascinating natural and cultural history, including mesmerizing geological formations and 19th-century mining operations.

Ask one of the staff members to help you plan your itinerary in the park. Brochures and maps are available for your use. You can also watch a 20-minute documentary about the park, which is shown throughout the day. If you are visiting between November and April, take part in a ranger-led tour or program. Join guided walks, informative talks and slide presentations to find out more about the park and its management.

The Furnace Creek Visitor Center is located between the Stovepipe Wells Village and Death Valley Junction in Death Valley National Park. Las Vegas is a 123-mile (198-kilometer) drive away. Near the visitor center, find resorts, campgrounds, the Furnace Creek Golf Course and the Borax Museum. The visitor center is open daily until late afternoon. Check for permit requirements before entering the national park. The park is open day and night year-round and has an entrance fee.
