It's simple â first, pack in your passport, official ID, bank cards and medications. Next, you'll want some entertainment to while away the time. A thrilling book and a phone crammed with your favourite movies are some terrific options. If you intend to catch up on some sleep, a comfy neck pillow and some noise-cancelling headphones will also come in handy. Finally, make room for a toothbrush and some deodorant so you'll arrive at your destination feeling fresh and ready to go.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
Pack all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated by authorities. Sharp objects, like your Swiss Army knife, and dangerous products which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosol cans, flares and poisons, are also restricted.
What to wear on a flight:
Your aim here is to be as comfortable as you can. Opt for flat, closed-toe shoes, dress in loose, natural fibers and remember to take a pullover in case you get chilly in the cabin.
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can pose a risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clots forming due to inactivity and poor circulation, so do some gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression tights or socks.
Your travel documents and passport will need to be inspected by airport security. Keep them within easy reach so you don't hold up the line.
Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your jacket, belt, keys and other items in your pocket, like coins, will need to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them as your turn draws near.
All electronic devices, including your tablet and phone, must also be separately scanned.
Travelling with a new perfume or cologne? No problem. As long as it's in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a zip-close bag, you can bring it with you in your carry-on baggage.
It's also possible you'll need to take your shoes off to be X-rayed, so wearing slip-on sneakers is always a good idea.
Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, put them in your checked suitcase. They won't be allowed on board.
