Wonderful stay in magical cabin

A truly wonderful place to stay. We stayed in the Tarzan suite. So spacious, stunning views, breezes blowing through all the open sections of the cabin. Close to nature with monkeys in the trees above and the occasional little lizard on the walls. Decent bathroom with much-needed cold shower - amazing facilities in a bamboo cabin on stilts! Very friendly helpful staff.

The lodge has been closed since the pandemic according to the person I talked to on the phone. But Expedia still allowed a booking so I was stuck at this remote town without a place to stay.

Sabalos Lodging is an experience of a life time!

Sábalos Lodge is literally on the majestic río San Juan. If you want to experience the rain forest with limited modern amenities this is the place for you. The cabins are built on stilts and have no air conditioning but the cool breeze from the river is enough for a good comfortable night sleep. We saw a small caiman from our balcony as well as howler monkies. The staff (Ismael) is incredibly gracious. Good typical nicaraguan food as well as wine, beer and cocktails. Wonderful experience!

Fantastic jungle river lodge

It felt like a home in the jungle. We saw so many animals in and around the lodge. The dog Pinto is the best guide ever.

Beautiful lodge in a beautiful setting

It was my birthday and I wanted to stay somewhere special and I was not disappointed. The lodge itself is very well done as it blends in to the environment. The cabanas except for one is very near the river which makes birdwatching exciting. The area to relax and use the wifi is very comfortable and offers plenty of shade. The dining at area is nicely situated away from the sitting area and is very pleasant. A lot of though went in to constructing the lodge and where to place the buildings. There are 4 smaller cabanas that are not as nice but are a little cheaper. The bed is comfy and the shower is very enjoyable. It is cold water which prompted me to wash my hair in the early afternoon. The staff are very attentive and make the stay even more enjoyable. Ismail knowing it was my birthday took the boat in to Cabalos and picked me up a birthday cake. They cleaned our room every day and it was very clean when we arrived. The food was excellent and is a good variety from pasta, fish, pork, beef and a vegetarian dish. I really have no complaints about my experience.

Fabulous not to be missed

This was the highlight of our Nicaraguan trip. Perfectly situated in the jungle, great accommodation and helpful friendly staff. Highly recommended. The day tour into the jungle was well worth while.
